If I could give the Troum law firm more than 5 STARS I would (I’d give them 10 STARS). The team including (Mark and Julie) were empathetic to my specific situation, always made me aware of all options available to me and helped ease all of my apprehension of the unknown. Julie is a God send !!! She is the one who made me feel comfortable to hire the Troum law firm from the beginning. She was patient, thorough, detailed, understanding and always so empathetic to my feelings. In the beginning of my divorce I had no idea what to expect and Julie continued to walk me through it with no hesitation. Now looking back it was the best decision I made to have her and Mark on my team. Mark is the sharpest, smartest and most knowledgeable lawyer. He was always personable , readily available, tactful, patient and his demeanor always put me at ease that I would get through any situation seamlessly. He was so patient in his approach and I never felt rushed or like a number. His years of experience helped in every situation because he was able to anticipate every outcome. If you’re debating on a law firm look no further these are not only team of experts but they treat you like a human being and specifically tailor to your situation. The Troum Law Firm saved me and changed my life for the better and I will be forever grateful to Mark, Julie and team. This team gave me the strength and confidence I needed to tackle my situation head on. Choose them they’re worth every penny I promise.

Terrible service. The "manager" hated that I needed multiple options for dates (I'm sorry I have to work and don't have endless availability). As soon as I was able to pick a date and time where the lawyer and I were available, I booked it however due to an emergency, I asked to be rescheduled after I sort out the emergency. Reschedule, not cancel. You would've thought I insulted her. She then told me to use another attorney because of so much back and forth on the dates among other things. When you have more than 1 person with busy schedules, it comes with the territory that back and forth. Needless to say, I will not be using them for anything at all.

Mr. Troum and the entire staff at Troum Law Firm have been absolutely amazing. I have been consistently working with Mr. Troum for the last 8 years. He helped me get through a very nasty and drawn out divorce proceeding, a custody arrangement for relocation to another state, then followed by 6 years of contempt and other litigations for violations of orders, non payment of amounts due, and other criminal proceedings that were needed in this case. Although it has been an extremely long process, at no point did I ever feel that Mr. Troum and his team ever missed an opportunity or honestly could have done better. They worked long and hard, were always available to help me understand all of the options available, and Mr. Troum was always aggressive as I needed him to be to ultimately get what was rightfully owed. In the end, the final result for me was better than I ever could have imagined. I would a million times over recommend The Troum Law Firm to anyone who is in the position of needing an attorney. There is absolutely no way I would have made it through these past 8+ years without them.

Mr. Bichler has been exemplary since my first meeting with him in 2000. He explained everything regarding my Hep-C ,and high blood pressure rights related to my firefighters job. I had received no help from the cities HR department as to covering my condition or treatment . Mr. Bicher’s team took care of insuring that all my medical needs were covered. Thank you for all that you do for First Responders.

I was referred to Kevin O'Hara back in the early 1990s for a car accident. His firm was wonderful in assisting me with my case. I was extremely pleased with the outcome. Over the years, I have consulted Mr. O'Hara regarding other legal matters, of which he has been courteous and informative. Mr. O'Hara is always very respectful and cares about his clients. He's well-educated in many areas of the law and always would give direction if my legal advice needed input from another lawyer in a particular field.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Maitland, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
