Jennifer placed me in the best job I’ve ever had. My worst day at my current job is 100 times better than the best day at my last job. She spoke with me at length in order to gauge where I was at in my career and weeded through several jobs to find the perfect fit. She’s always available and takes any concern you have seriously. She will not let anyone stay in a position that isn’t benefiting them. She will make sure you are taken care of. I would recommend everyone I know to NorthStar Legal if they need job placement!

I had been searching for a full time position for a while and just wasn’t coming up with the right fit. Even having a great resume this was just weird timing and I was hitting walls that were holding me back in one way or the other. Once I found Jennifer with Northstar Legal I knew after our first conversation that she was different!! I actually took a deep breath and I felt like I didn’t have to worry anymore. I was soooo right too because she ended up using all her client connections and found me a job that was more than perfect! I knew she would and she did!!! If you are doubting yourself like I was and you want someone on your side that will really do a great job it’s Jennifer and her team. Everyone I spoke to there was so nice and really made sure they knew what your needs were. You can trust the process with them! I really can’t say enough great things! They are sooooo good!!!!!

After 32 years in one place I found myself looking for a new job. I was terrified and lost. I posted my availability on Linked In and Jennifer, who I’d been connected with, contacted me almost immediately. We didn’t really know each other, but we became fast friends, discussing my skills and preferences. She expertly guided me to a new position that is perfect for me. Even after placing me, she would contact me to check in and see how I was doing, talking me down off the ledge a few times in the beginning when I felt I couldn’t do it, assuring me I could do this. HUGE thanks and kudos to her for being there when it felt like no one else was. Jennifer is the BEST! 😃

Incredibly horrendous service. Inability to make good on communication and commitments. Four months of wasted time in a time sensitive situation, failed to listen or adjust legally so much so had to be dropped for another attorney. Would not recommend.

During my 37 year career as a law enforcement officer and as Chief of Police for the past 16 years I have worked with many attorneys. Cliff Shepard is without a doubt on top of my list as an advocate for his clients. In recent litigation involving a multi million dollar lawsuit many lawyers wanted to settle the claim after arbitration. Cliff took the position we had done nothing wrong and insisted on going to trial if need be. As a result of his insistance the case proceeded and we prevailed with the court ultimately dismissing the claim totally.

Cliff handled a very sensitive civil litigation matter for me which involved mutiple parties and perfomed admirably. He was always conscious of who he represented (me!) and was enthusiastic about the pursuit of the case. He is a knowledgeable and aggressive litigator who can think on his feet, but above all, he is ethical. I certainly would engage him again.

Daniella provided my wife and I representation when we had to sue our insurance company for failure to uphold a claim resulting from a tropical storm. This was our first experience with having to take anyone or business to court. Having Danielle and her team help us understand each step of the process and keep us calm and fully engaged, gave us assurance that we had the right team. Daniella's support and professionalism was excellent.

I have used Mr. Barnes numerous times over the years to deal with customers not willing to pay for services rendered. I have now had him help me with verbage on my credit application, as well as estimates to help out in the court of law. Very knowledgeable and accessible.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Maitland, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
