We were involved in a hit and run. We saw the driver's face and got the license plate number off the truck before he took off. We met with the police immediately after the accident and they said they would look into it for us and gave us a case number. Per the recommendaion of a family memeber, first thing Monday morning (this happened on Saturday evening) we were at Shane Smith's office. We met with Stacy Overbey, Case Manager. Had I known then what a pitbull she could be, I possibly would have been a little intimidated upon our first meeting, instead I felt right at home like I was meeting a friend of a friend. She was kind and professional and made me feel like I was going to be well taken care of. My feeling was right! Within a day she had began working diligently on my case. The owner of the vehicle told her insurance company that the car was stolen during the time it was invovled in the accident. After more research Stacy found out that the vehicle was back at home within hours of the accident and that it was never reported stolen to the police. She told me that it would be a longer process because the insurance company was not going to cooperate but that she would do everything she could to ensure that we were taken care of. And that she did! Within 2 months she got us everything we were hoping for and more! If you are looking for a lawyer who is knowledgealbe, professional, takes the time to keep you in the know and truly cares about your case, I would highly recommend Shane Smith and Associates!

After a car crashed into out property, we tried for 6 months but could never get the insurance company to give us any information. We could not even get them to answer our calls. After contacting Shane we got paid within days. The full amount we asked for too.

Shane Smith and Associates have represented me twice in the last year. They are reliable, efficient, courteous and polite. They gave all the correcto advice and it’s because of them that a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. Last year they helped me file for bankruptcy. When I went to court they treated me with respect and dignity. This year I was rearended and they are representing me as well. Amanda Wolf has been there from day one, helping me get coverage from the person who rearended, getting my rental, etc... I will continue to call them my lawyers, and you should too.

After a few meetings with Ana em 2023, I hired the attorney services of the company she used to work for. In the beginning, everything went well. After some months, however, there were serious problems inside this company that compromised the quality of the work. When that happened, Ana left the company to keep her ethics intact. Well, I had a serious problem because the company was not delivering any progress in my case after she left and my contract was with them. When their precarious work became unbearable, I turned to Ana for help and hired her services. Not only did she help my case, she also: - helped me solve my problems with the previous company - never spoke in an ill way about the previous company - helped me with a fair price (since she already knew my case) - did impressive work: I mean, the documents she wrote were so well rounded up... She really understood my case and put all her brilliance into making it shine. - she did it fast: in less than 30 days (since she already knew my case) we were ready to submit my case. That's why I summarize her work as ethical with high quality and efficiency. Thank you, Ana you did not let me down from the beginning until the end.

Mr. Vaughn is a horse of a different color when it comes to attorneys. He has a true belief justice should be served, aggressive, making every effort possible, putting in time needed to find a way to make it happen. He takes a personal interest in his cases and though has to make his money has an equal interest in justice. He is more knowledgable regarding laws other attorneys I've spoken to never even mentioned. If lucky enough for Mr. Vaughn to have time to take your case, you will have no regrets nor could you have find anyone able to handle it better.

We were victims of hurricane Ian. Our property insurance was with Slide Insurance. Their initial field adjuster was terrific and agreed that the roof needed replacement and the lanai screens repaired. Slide then sent 2 other field adjusters out to refute original adjuster claims and said damage was caused by poor maintenance by us. Well, enter Mike who guided us to a successful claim allowing us to replace the roof and other needed repairs. He was professional, personable and knowledgeable about how insurance companies operate. A perfect lawyer to have on your side when dealing with insurance companies. Thank you Mike! John & Annie Speaker Punta Gorda, Florida

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Melbourne, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
