I got an unfair citation from overzealous cops while I was kayaking on the Intracoastal Waterway while on vacation in FL. Florida has Byzantine legal rules when it comes to boating tickets and I couldn't even pay the ticket - I had to appear in court - but I live in NYC. So I decided to fight the ticket - first, because the ticket was bogus, and second, because if I paid it instead of appearing in court, I could have been in trouble in the future (might have had an arrest warrant issued for not appearing in person). So I called Ferrer Shane Gonzales and spoke with Enrique Ferrer, who patiently explained to me how the system worked down there in FL and the potential outcomes if I responded to the ticket one way or the other. The fee to handle my case was only slightly higher than the fine itself, so I went ahead and retained them. Carlos Gonzales took my case and went to court for me and had the judge throw the ticket out. Throughout the process, Carlos was accessible on the phone when I had any questions - and more importantly he was patient and clearly explained what he was going to do and how things worked.
