Family First Legal Group deserves way more than 5 stars and there are not enough words to express how grateful I am for Attorney Terry DeSalvo and Paralegal Megan Sanford (who is now officially an attorney!!!). I get emotional just thinking about it. I was almost two years into my divorce/custody battle with a different law firm and hadn’t accomplished ANYTHING. It was a complete nightmare. After reading their stellar reviews I retained Terry and Megan with Family First Legal Group and it instantly changed my life. I say “instantly” because Attorney DeSalvo and Megan were able to accomplish in eight weeks what my other attorney could not accomplish in a year and a half. It was scary starting all over again but they EXCEL at communication and brought a level of confidence, understanding and compassion that instantly put me at ease. Every single time I called the office the entire staff was caring, professional and helpful and I always received a timely response. Megan would often take extra time with me when I was having a tough day and just wanted to give up. She would gently get me back on track, restore my confidence and get me prepared for the next step. Most importantly...I ALWAYS knew what was going on with my case and what to expect. Terry was great at setting realistic expectations. We were able to settle through mediation which is nothing short of a miracle. The mediation was 11 hours at their office, going after hours, and Terry and Megan pushed through it with me to the very end to make sure the agreement was made, signed and officially notarized. Terry is equally as compassionate and kind as Megan...making the 11 hour mediation comfortable and surprisingly pleasant. I’m beyond happy with the outcome. I’ll never forget at the end...signing the giant stack of paperwork..the mediator (who was also great) said “it’s like signing your life away”. I said “no..I’m actually getting my life back”. I have so much gratitude for Terry, Megan and the entire Family First Legal Group for the expert level of knowledge, compassion and communication they provided me. You far exceeded my expectations. No wonder they have a 4.9 star rating! My review below was flagged by the company and taken down by Google within an hour! Don't believe the 4.9 star hype! AND I received a snotty email from Family First after they saw my review, about how I would not be a good fit for them, AFTER I'd already moved on! The firm's reply to this review says it all; it's like a doctor saying to the patient, "I'm sure glad we didn't treat your affliction! All these questions and concerns you have about your disease would have caused us smart medical people a LOT of time and headache. Good luck!" And notice the reply doesn't address anything in my review--not that they falsely flagged the review; not that they refuse to meet in person but bill an in-person hourly rate; not that two years into covid they should have found a way to conduct in-person business; none of that--they just blame and fault-find with the prospective client for detail the fact of his experience with them. Is that the kind of firm you want? BLUF: Two years of COVID and they still haven't figured out a way to meet in person and want $350+ for a Zoom meeting. I also didn't get the impression they're fighters. Savvy and communicative, maybe, but the right choice for a hard and complicated custody situation? Not convinced. Search the reviews by your subject and sort them by date to get a better sense. I contacted this firm 3-4 months ago after my ex left FL for WI with my three kids under six years old with no plans to return. I was initially pleased with this law firm, but was then told I needed to have a consult with the principal attorney that would NOT be discounted due to his refusal to meet in person due to COVID. $350/hr was too much for a zoom meeting where I would get no real sense of the person. So I removed this firm from my list and met with other attorneys. My ex and I decided to work on things, so I scrapped plans for an attorney. The relationship degraded again, and I was again tempted by this firm's long list of positive and recent reviews. However, when I looked deeper for reviews containing "custody," it seemed like there weren't so many glowing reviews anymore. But, I called anyway to see if the principal attorney was willing to meet, yet, in person. I said that I worked for the Army, and we're being mandated back to work because precautions can be enforced, so I figured if Family First had a 16' boardroom table, we could certainly pull off a no-risk in-person meeting. I was again told no. I had retainer in hand and am in desperate need of help, and was told "no" by this firm because they can't take effective enough COVID precautions to meet with me. I need a solution-oriented firm that is willing to fight HARD for my visitation or custody. I did not get the impression that this was going to be that firm from my interactions with them. Divorce? Other issues? Maybe they're 5 star. But if Family First can't engineer solutions into their work model--after almost two years of COVID--other than to say "stay away! we don't need your business that badly!", then you're not the firm for me.

Overall Experience: Excellent. Highly competent and diligent representation provided on my matter from start to finish, with constant communication, both from attorney (John Gilhart) and support staff (paralegal Lisa Singleton). Case involved legal complexities, but counsel and his team were on it. Decisions were mine alone to make, once advice was provided -- as it should always be. Nothing was forced upon me. John and I collaborated on strategy at every turn; he heard me out and took my concerns seriously. Most importantly, John Gilhart believed in my case, always put in the work, and was always fully prepared -- whether for meetings, or full-blown court hearings. The results bear that out. Pricing: Reasonable considering the high level of service provided. My approval was always sought out first where additional expenses were involved. Results: Again, beyond positive, without going into specifics here. Nothing bad to say. Very grateful.

Again, words cannot describe how great we were treated every single time by the staff members.
