I hired her to handle my car accident case in 2019. In January 2021 due to the Covid situation I had to move from Florida to another state. I called and told her about the moving, the new address but same phone number. Guess what. she never called me , never responded my calls and texts no communications at all. Each time I called her office I left her messages said I wanted to know about my case. She never got back to me. In July Last year I went to Florida to talk her about the office closed always. Finally, I used another phone number and called her she answered because she didn’t know if it was me. She told me the insurance made her an Ofer if she could accept it or fight for more. I told to her just take it . because I don’t want to deal with her she not professional ,tired of her that’s why . She said ok she will take it ! Since that day she never answered my calls and texts. We are going to make a complaint against her next week. I will give you an update guys.

I strongly advise against hiring Ruth D Orange as your lawyer. I engaged her services for my divorce and auto accident, both occurring within a month of each other in the summer of 2021. Regrettably, her performance was severely lacking. Despite initial impressions, she failed to fulfill her duties, resulting in significant financial losses on my part. Communication was a major issue; she frequently ignored my attempts to contact her, and I even came close to missing court dates because of her lack of responsiveness. In the case of my auto accident, she strung me along for three years, falsely claiming that my case was pending while never actually filing a lawsuit despite my injuries. Despite lodging complaints with the Florida Bar, no meaningful action has been taken. It's concerning to see someone like her continue to practice law without accountability. I've spoken with other individuals who have had similar experiences with her, further confirming my concerns. Despite my efforts to seek redress, I've been unable to find resolution due to the perceived lack of seriousness by the Florida Bar. Please, for your own sake, seek legal representation elsewhere. Ruth D Orange's behavior, including making false statements and neglecting her duties, is unacceptable. Exercise caution and explore other options for legal assistance.

A friend referred me, at first, reading the comments, I was a little scared and I was very impatient, to the point of insulting her as "careless". But despite everything, she understood me. She accompanied me throughout the trial. I didn't have much money, I was arrogant, but she taught me humility and compassion. I was deprived of my only daughter for over ten months. Miss Ruth Damys Orange transformed the hell I was experiencing in this court into paradise. She knows the laws. I also thought about changing lawyers because she doesn't talk much, but the result is there. I highly recommend it.

She is not responsible. Extremely poor communication. Do not respond to emails or phone calls. Extremely bad experience. Finally I had to replaced her with another attorney.

Sued a former employee who embezzled from me and the bank who cashed the checks. He recovered ALL of my lost money. I have heard many attorneys who said they hated to oppose Mr. Cohn

Mark helped me navigate an issue whereby my employer terminated me while we had a contract. Mark advocated for me, and while we are still in litigation, has been able to extract some powerful evidence for my case. I'm confident in his ability to provide a favorable outcome.

Alan was involved for nine months in my real estate dispute which took over two years to conclude. He joined with his partner Michelle Hurvitz who had been leading the case since it began. Because of Covid I was not able to meet Alan in person, but it really didn't matter. His dedication and compassion were readily apparent by phone and zoom, and I immediately trusted his integrity and outstanding legal skills and judgement. He worked smoothly with Michelle to move my case to a successful verdict (We won!). They communicate openly and honestly and hone each other's thinking. I've taught executive teamwork in many companies and countries, and these two, Hamisch and Hurvitz, are the real deal.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Naples, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
