Anna's great. She helped me after one of my trucks were totaled due to a head on collision that wasn't my fault. She keeps you up to date and posted on what's going on at all times, and she is very professional. You can tell she genuinely cares about her clients in the way she handles the case. I would recommend her to anyone.

Michael provided a very professional and pleasant atmosphere during my case. Under very difficult and biased attitudes from my employer, Michael guided me to a positive resolution. I have and will continue to recommend Michael for any Workmen’s Comp litigation.

I hired Mr. Keough to help me with my workmen's comp case. Not only did he help me to understand all that was going on , He was true to his word. He is honest and my husband and I trust him with our Whole Heart! We got a great settlement and couldn’t be happier with the service and knowledge that was provided all along.

I recently had the privilege of working with McPherson and Thomas Firm after being involved in an auto accident. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the outstanding service and support I received from this firm. From the very beginning, they made the entire process much easier than I ever expected, and I would like to share my heartfelt review to help others in need of an auto accident injury attorney in Tampa Bay. One year ago, I found myself in a stressful situation following the accident. However, McPherson and Thomas Firm quickly became my rock throughout the entire journey. I want to specifically mention my assigned attorney, Ian Thomas, and paralegal, Jennifer, who did a fantastic job with my case. From our first meeting, they took the time to truly understand my situation and provide the guidance and representation I needed. Their expertise and knowledge in auto accident injury cases were evident, and I felt confident that I was in good hands. What truly stood out to me was the level of care and compassion I received from Ian, Jennifer, and the entire team at McPherson and Thomas Firm. They not only fought tirelessly for my rights and best interests but also provided the emotional support & medical guidance I needed during such a challenging time. Jennifer, who spent the most time on my case, made communication easier than I could have hoped for. Her attentiveness and dedication to keeping me informed and updated were remarkable. I always felt heard and valued as a client. She helped me make all the important connections while my body & brain functionality was still recovering from the trauma. Throughout the process, McPherson and Thomas Firm demonstrated their commitment to making the entire experience as smooth and stress-free as possible. They handled all the necessary paperwork, communicated with insurance companies on my behalf, and kept me informed of any updates or developments. Their attention to detail and proactive approach allowed me to focus on my recovery while they fought for the compensation I deserved. I want to emphasize that my experience with McPherson and Thomas Firm was personal and beyond satisfactory. They treated me as an individual, not just another case. Their dedication to their clients is unmatched, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking legal representation for auto accident injury cases in Tampa Bay. By sharing this review, I hope to contribute to their success and help others in need of a trustworthy and compassionate legal team. McPherson and Thomas Firm, along with Ian Thomas and Jennifer, truly deserve recognition for their exceptional service. I am forever grateful for their support and representation during one of the most challenging times in my life.

I fell and broke my back because there were no warnings or proper instructions on the product I was using and it caused me to pass out and fall, I first contacted that “big” law firm you see on TV all the time. What a mistake!! After 2 months of promises and getting the run around when I would call, they said they couldn’t help me with my case. That’s when I called McPherson and Thomas and WOW! WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Attorney Thomas was happy to help, always kept me up to date and in the loop as things progressed. He was able to resolve my case and get me a settlement, when that “big” law firm said I didn’t have a case. Thank you to Attorney Thomas and his whole office staff for truly fighting for the people!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Port Richey, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
