As a fellow attorney, I had hoped to leave a positive review for Mr. Roberts’ representation in my divorce and custody case. While he possesses a strong knowledge of the law and is a capable legal practitioner, I cannot recommend him to anyone seeking fair, ethical, or diligent legal services. Over the 15 months of his representation, my case was delayed four times, resulting in legal fees exceeding $120,000—nearly $50,000 more than his original estimate. These costs were compounded by $44,000 in expert witness fees and $15,000 in trial expenses. Mr. Roberts frequently recommended unnecessary delays that inflated costs, failed to prepare adequately to avoid those delays, and pressured me to retain expert witnesses with exorbitant fees. His office also charged excessive rates, including $150/hour for clerical work, $275/hour for routine paralegal tasks, and $575/hour for senior attorney services. Additionally, Mr. Roberts’ conduct throughout the process was unprofessional and demeaning. He accused me of using my grandmother’s death as leverage to reduce legal fees, told me I “needed therapy,” blamed me for the rising costs, and repeatedly threatened to withdraw representation if payments weren’t promptly made. Ultimately, he abruptly withdrew as my counsel just 10 minutes before a key hearing. This experience left me feeling emotionally distressed, disrespected, and financially exploited during an already challenging time. It was marked by poor communication, financial coercion, and a lack of accountability. If you are considering hiring Mr. Roberts, I strongly urge you to seek alternative counsel or, at a minimum, insist on a clear and comprehensive estimate of total costs before proceeding.
