Mr. Weart lives up to his reputation as a top-notch defense attorney. He is respected and well-liked by his peers and colleagues, and for good reason. Mr. Weart put more time, effort, and careful thought into my defense than any of the attorneys who had worked on my case previously. His efforts paid off and I was blessed with the best possible outcome for my case. I appreciate Mr. Weart and am very grateful for his services.

Mr. Weart is an outstanding lawyer. So thankful, I was referred to Mr. Weart by my bail bondsman. From day one, he took on my DUI case. Explained the pros and cons of the situation and told me it was going to be hard, but I could do it. Even with the load of cases he had, I never once felt neglected. If I didn't receive a call from him, I'd received a call from his wonderful wife. Needless to say, you get what you pay for, my DUI was reduced to reckless driving without alcohol. I saved $5,000 in fees, Mr. Weart you are the best.

There are not enough superlative words in the English language to express what James Weart means to me and my family. James was able to get an outrageous sentence of 6 years DOC and 24 years probation reduced to five years probation with early termination in the future for my family member. He worked our case and for once we found an outstanding attorney who was kind to his client, who understood the issues and really devoted himself to going over the case with a fine tooth comb. He is a brilliant man and an even better human being. Thank you Mr. Weart, we are forever in your debt.

I met Mr. Weart in 2012, where I hired him to represent my brother in a possession/trafficking charge. He was able to work with my brother and got him a very minimal sentence of 6 months and probation. After that, my brother violated probation and Mr. Weart went to work for him again and was able to get him sent to a residential rehabilitation program instead of prison time. Fast forward a few years, and there was another violation and Mr. Weart was able to help my brother get into an outpatient program instead of time in prison. Mr. Weart is extremely charismatic and truly cares about his clients and their well being. There was yet another incident, Another violation, and Mr. Weart got it dismissed. I am very satisfied with his services and would recommend him in a heartbeat. He always kept us informed of what was going on and showed real interest in helping my family go through all the steps and ultimately, help my brother to a better life.

I received a DUI in October of 2015, I fell through the cracks in the courts for 6+ months. When I was finally put on docket court gave me a week and a half before my first appearance. I called Mr. Weart told him and he got right to work! Not only did he show up to multiple court appearances with me, but he also worked with me financially! He is a very friendly, professional lawyer know knows his stuff! He got my DUI down to a RECKLESS and I even messed up and violated my probation, and they wanted to give me jail time... Well not only did I stay out of jail but 2 months later (after completing what was court ordered) he got me completely off of probation!! So I highly recommend Mr. Weart, he did a great job and the way he worked with me financially made me able to obtain a lawyer, otherwise I would've went in with a Public Defender.. no good there. So thank you so much Mr. Weart!! If your in the market get a free consultation you wont be disappointed!

The group I represent had several very technical legal questions that we needed answered very quickly. Ms. Bertrand listened carefully to our problem, asked several questions on issues we had not even considered, and was able to get back to us with a detailed answer and recommendations on how we should proceed in a timly manner. Our group has never had full time legal consultants, but we do now. We highly recommend this firm and Ms. Bertrand in particular. She was very personable, easy to understand and she answered our question in a way that was easy for us who do not speak "legalize" to understand.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Orlando, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
