Good afternoon Lic. Hernandez and his wife, Mrs. Hortencia. We are very grateful for your dedicated and professionalism. It was worth having patience and waiting for their hard work and dedication to bear good fruit. Thank you very much again that even without knowing me personally he took my case and was able to prove my innocence. May Almighty God continue to provide you with wisdom for such regrettable cases before Courts of (Justice), amen. And may the most High God he light yours steps and Light to your path. Much success. God Bless you richly and abundantly. Very thankful; Hector and Olga.

I was referred to H. Manual Hernandez (Manny) by another attorney as I was being investigated based on allegations made that I had committed Elder Financial Exploitation. This was unequivocally the worst fear that I had ever encountered. I could literally write volumes in this review regarding how well Manny conducted my case. I appreciated him never patronizing me by sugar coating issues. He always articulated very clearly the issues regarding my case. He was fastidious regarding being well prepared and was outstanding regarding how he respectfully interfaced with the lead criminal investigator, as well as numerous others. He consistently demonstrated an extraordinary level of professionalism. I felt that he was sincerely my advocate, not just my attorney. He always treated me with dignity and respect. Manny is extremely intelligent and has impressive credentials such as, having been a Federal Prosecutor for numerous years; he has a substantial knowledge of numerous areas of other legal expertise and is highly regarded by his peers. He is a credit to his profession. Manny is a very ethical attorney and I was impressed with his core values. Regarding his law firm, his paralegal is outstanding and as well as his investigator. Manny worked extremely expeditiously on my case. Due to his ongoing conversations with the lead detective for criminal investigations and his exceedingly thorough final police report submittal of which reflected concrete tangible evidence that I had not committed a criminal act and it was truly a unfortunate misunderstanding regarding the allegations made. The investigation was subsequently closed. I would never have any reservations regarding a referral to Manny. He truly is one of the very best attorneys and he definitely exceeded my expectations regarding the outcome of my case. I will forever owe him a debt of gratitude.

Manny tells it like it is and always professional. Most times he would answer my phone calls and if he was busy would respond promptly. My prior attorney had me accept a plea deal which got me fired by my employer when my attorney had told me that wouldn’t happen. In addition, I lost the ability to work in my industry due to a licensing issue. Many was able to get my conviction reversed then go back to court and end up with a slap on the hand. I am now able to work in my industry again and life is good. I would hire Manny again in a second, but hope I don’t need to!

Mr. Hernandez did a first rate job on a recent legal issue that I retained him to handle. His communication with me was outstanding. He explained all aspects of the legal process involved, provided many options for how to proceed and made sure I could make informed and educated decisions. I can't say enough good things about Manny, his professionalism, and his unwavering advocacy of his clients. While I hope I won't need his services in the future, If I do, there is no question who I would call or recommend to anyone in need of a first rate criminal defense attorney.

The group I represent had several very technical legal questions that we needed answered very quickly. Ms. Bertrand listened carefully to our problem, asked several questions on issues we had not even considered, and was able to get back to us with a detailed answer and recommendations on how we should proceed in a timly manner. Our group has never had full time legal consultants, but we do now. We highly recommend this firm and Ms. Bertrand in particular. She was very personable, easy to understand and she answered our question in a way that was easy for us who do not speak "legalize" to understand.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Orlando, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
