I wrote an awe inspired review for this attorney once before. Just wanted to add: she risked her life for me. Moreover, she was selected by CCHR for a reputation of such bravery.

Kendra handled my probate claim after my dad’s will went missing. While the state of Florida tends to rule with the spouse, Kendra negotiated a settlement that protected the rights of my siblings and I and fulfilled my father’s true wishes.

I had to go outside Broward to fight a ridiculous RPO from the Broward Sheriff that was not about an RPO -- as I have no prior arrests -- no a single allegation ever that I was or had a history of violence ever. Moreover, it was based on false claims by neighbors whom i had reported to the OIG for Election fraud, managed to get the BSO to send in a 40 man SWAT team to serve me civil papers. Not an arrest warrant, and not a search warrant. Simply civil process service. After trying to go pro se - as every other lawyer in Broward was unwilling to take the case, I found Kendra Parris. In a short time, she put together a fantastic brief that while academic -- was so well reasoned, and laid out the case law and constitutional issues in a way I could never have dreamed of. Solid in its logic, scholarly yet accessible -- let alone she could write for both legal and lay audiences - that was astounding in its clarity, and a firmer grasp on the issues that the legislature in their haste to pass a bill -- that while noble in principle was not through at all -- trampled rights in an inexcusable way. No matter what happens, I will always be grateful for her time and passion and dedication to righting wrongs done under a hastily written and unconstitutional reaction to the MSD tragedy. She has renewed my faith that there are in fact, lawyers who are passionate about justice. I cannot speak more enthusiastically about the passion and dedication she shows to her work and clients. I will be forever grateful for her keen interest and laser sharp focus. She is an advocate the like of which I have not encountered before.

The city of Apopka decided to file, a very complicated situation, a risk protection order against me I contacted Kendra Parris because after I did research on her I felt she was the person that should represent me I had contacted a lot of other attorneys who wanted to charge me over 6,000 dollars to handle it And the other attorneys didn't have a lot of experience with the risk protection order Today I went to court with Kendra Parris who represented me in the risk protection order I had been charged with. Kendra parris argued the case with the city of Apopka attorney to the judge After arguing case law and statutes back and forth Which I should say Kendra knew the law like the back of her hand I was amazed Kendra Paris had dealt with a lot of things and put an extensive amount of research and time into my case Not to mention the amount of stress I was under After about 2 hours in court with Kendra against apopka, a amazing battle of law I must say, WE WON THE CASE AGAINST APOPKA!! I am so relieved. Kendra was amazing in Court, I wish you could have been there to see it She is a wonderful attorney, and she knows the law Definitely worth hiring

The group I represent had several very technical legal questions that we needed answered very quickly. Ms. Bertrand listened carefully to our problem, asked several questions on issues we had not even considered, and was able to get back to us with a detailed answer and recommendations on how we should proceed in a timly manner. Our group has never had full time legal consultants, but we do now. We highly recommend this firm and Ms. Bertrand in particular. She was very personable, easy to understand and she answered our question in a way that was easy for us who do not speak "legalize" to understand.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Orlando, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
