Michael St. Jacques represented me during a residential construction dispute. He was recommended to me by one of the top legal firms in South Florida and helped to resolve many of the problems created by the general contractor that I had hired. Solving problems quickly, efficiently, and with honestly and personal integrity seems to be his forte. He quickly helped me to find others of the same character. Each problem was approached and handled in a professional manner and he always found a solution. Since that time, he has helped in other areas, such as business and personal needs, always responding quickly with advice and solutions.

Mr. St. Jacques represented me as a defendant in a construction lien case against my home in Monroe County Florida. His knowledge of the complex Florida construction lien laws was instrumental in a decidedly successful outcome. Mr. St. Jacques proved to be a very trustworthy and dedicated professional who paid close attention to every aspect of the case with care and consideration. He traveled hours south for each deposition and court appearance personally, while kindly guiding me in understanding the arduous intricacies of the proceedings. The Florida Statutes regarding construction liens are complex, meticulous and confusing. Without Mr. St. Jacques impressive comprehension of these laws, I’m not sure the results would have been so favorable. Bottom line is when or if you find yourself involved in a similar mess, make sure you find representation that equally mirrors Mr. St. Jacques experience and knowledge – this guy REALLY knows what he’s doing.

I have worked with Mike for over five years on a wide range of services. I have always been happy with his work because he is detailed, prepares well thought out documents and gets the job done. He communicates well internally and with opposing lawyers to bring about quick resolutions. He has learned my business and industry on his own time and become a vital resource for my company.

Attorney Dean is a very attentive and caring attorney. We hired him to handle my daughter's legal matter. She was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor for a crime that she did, but it was a "heat of the moment, emotional act". He understood and represented her and handled the case as if it was his own daughter that made a mistake. He answered the phone EVERYTIME we called and responded to our emails within 5 to 10 minutes. He kept us informed every step of the way. He was able to the get the felony dropped to a misdemeanor (praise God) and then within less then 2 months he got the entire case dismissed. He spoke on her behalf as if she was his family. I have never met him face to face, but felt like I knew him all my life. Great person, person of integrity, he stands on his word. Hire him to get the job done, praise God for Attorney Dean Merten!!!!!

My wife hired Stuart for a pending criminal issue i was facing. I met with him and he was awesome from the get go. He called my nerves he explained everything to me and didn't blow smoke up my @$$ with flase promises. He answered all of my questions, and believe me between my wife and I tjere were allot, he answered all my calls even on the weekends. He worked very hard and did exactly what he promised me he was going to do. I was facing some serious time and he was able to get it down to house arrest, which if u saw what i was facing you would be happy too. Liz came on later in the case but was just as amazing in getting stuff done quickly. So no matter if it's criminal or civil these are the lawyers u want on your side.

Stuart and Joe used their experience as former FBI agents to get ahead of our legal mess. What started off as millions of dollars in seized assets and likely prison time, according to the Prosecutors, quickly turned into only a civil matter. These guys traveled 2500 miles for a 3 day proffer and drove to our home 3 hours away several times in the middle of out mess.

Tim is the type of lawyer everyone wishes that had on their side. He took a personal interest in my case and treated me like family, not just a client. I had direct access to Tim via cell phone and email and he was super responsive and took the time to explain everything in a way that even I could understand. He really made me feel comfortable in a very stressful situation and I knew from the very beginning that he had my back if things got out of control. I’ll admit I spoke to other lawyers, but chose Tim because of his receptiveness and his ability to protect my interests. I would not hesitate to recommend Tim to anyone looking for a great lawyer, He’s focused on helping you and thats what won me over.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
