Was faced with a thorny problem with mobile home park over certain renovations that were promised and not delivered. General abusive behavior from the company caused flare-ups of my PTSD which made it difficult for me to deal with them in a strong professional manner. Hired Ryan to take over the project and he saved me from having to deal with the company directly. Ryan came up with a good settlement suggestion which was accepted and everything has been finalized and thankfully, my life has returned to near normal. If you need someone in your corner to represent you, Ryan is definitely a number one choice!!!

I visited Mr. Dirks in his office to defend me from my ex- landlord and his lawyer for an unjust counterclaim. He explained the procedure to me and the next day he settled the case professionely and honestly. We were very happy about the result. He is very loyal to his client and also very patient in explaining every details in the case. Very highly recommended!

I was referred to Ryan Dirks when I was asked to assume a difficult estate matter for a family member. I live in Illinois and the estate was in Florida. It was impossible for me to monitor and attend to all matters of the estate. Not only did Ryan handle all the legal matters, he volunteered to handle serious personal matters that involved evicting squatters and dealing with the police in my absence. I have dealt with many lawyers over the years, but none have been as cooperative and helpful to me personally as Ryan has been with this matter. I highly recommend Ryan to anyone that wants an attorney that will be fair to all individuals and will do whatever he can to resolve any issues or problems that his clients may face.

I was comfortable hiring Mr. Dirks to represent me when my right of way was blocked by a neighbor. At our first consultation, I knew Ryan would be the one to represent me. He was professional, considerate, and listened to me. When It was time to meet with the neighbor, he stood by me as I spoke, giving me confidence that I had a right to ask that the block be removed. And it was, easily and efficiently. I highly recommend Ryan; he responds quickly and is very thorough and professional. Sincerely, Carolyn

I hired Ryan to resolve an ongoing difficult situation with my condo association that was preventing the sale of my condo. Within a few short weeks, Ryan had obtained an agreement from the Association allowing me to move forward with a sales contract. He determined the best approach, quickly took action and communicated every step of the way. I would highly recommend Ryan and would not hesitate to hire him in the future.

Lawyer Barbara Hunting’s expertise, knowledge, and terrific communication skills provided us with thorough information regarding chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Since this is the first experience for us, we were initially confused and nervous. After talking to Barbara, we are calmer and have a clearer understanding of the bankruptcy process and our options. We are grateful and would highly recommend her.

Ms. Hunting has been my go-to call for help whenever I have needed it for the last twenty years. She is most knowledgeable in her field and has had a great deal of experience from which to draw. She is a great listener and grasps each situation early on in our discussions. She has been very honest about outcomes and expectations and I feel very secure in her capable hands. Ms. Hunting is extremely fair, I feel and takes care of all the little details to the optimum conclusion. Whether its in her field or not, I will always reach out to her first to get her feel and to see if she has any suggestions for moving forward. I trust her emphatically and she does not talk down to me. I would recommend her to any friend or family that was in need of a lawyer.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Palm Harbor, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
