I have worked in the personal injury legal field for decades. I have been employed or subcontracted with the large firms that you see on television. I had the pleasure of being referred to this firm via a friend (a doctor) that's also in the business. Let me just say despite the ads that saturate all of us; bigger isn't necessarily better!! From the initial meeting with Leslie and her numerous updates on my case as it progressed with Margie Swope the pre-litigation handling attorney to the seamless transition to litigation attorney Scott Swope and his paralegal Julie; I couldn't have been more pleased! This part (litigation) is a key factor as there are firms out there that don't/won't litigate and big insurance knows which ones do and don't! This firm has that reputation and rightfully so! They won't back down and will fight for you! They exceeded my expectations and should I ever need experts in this field again; I will definitely utilize their superb services again!

Scott and Margie Swope are among the most honest and dedicated to helping others. They will not rest until every avenue has been explored. I trust my life to them. Scott's background in law enforcement and the judicial system has added to his extensive education. Their hearts and minds are in the right place

In other words, a total real estate guru. Michael is a great guy and tremendously knowledgeable. Can clarify complex and nuanced issues with precision, and in a way that allows a person to make not only informed but also smart decisions. He's also a funny and enjoyable guy to be around...the best of both worlds. His back-office team of administrators, closing agents, etc. is top notch. Very service oriented and very hardworking. They are thorough, precise and very helpful. I have done many purchases / closings and set up many land trusts (as well as navigating various insurance- and liability-related issues) and feel confident and comfortable in the advice I have received. Highly recommended.

Mr. Gonzales is an excellent attorney in all areas of law, particularly contract, estate & trusts and property/real estate. He has been the lead attorney on all my business and personal legal matters for over 20 years and I would recommend him to anyone for commercial or personal issues. The best I've seen in Estate/Tax/Trusts law! Very thorough. Extremely knowledgeable, client friendly and punctual with work products.

Mr Chianco has been great from the start. He’s very knowledgeable in all areas that need to be handled during the process. Aside from the business part, he’s very helpful and calming during this stressful time. He’s honest and does what’s right. He takes the time needed for his clients. He doesn’t rush anything just to hurry and get paid. He works for the best interests of his client, not himself! I wish more Lawyers were like him!

Mr.Chianco went above and beyond to help my case with very timely and professional bussiness practices. Never did he miss a call or have any problems keeping me informed or answering my questions. He was very thorough in his work with contacting all party's of the case and keeping everyone informed, and with Mr. Chianco's help not only were we awarded the maximum payout but he also helped me get over $250,000 in hospital bills dropped to a much better price in a very timely manner. He also went above and beyond to help me make sure all my debts and expenses were covered, even discounting his own costs and expenses. There is no doubt that he is simply the best in class, I recommend him to everyone for the simple fact that you won't find a greater person to have on your team. Knowledgeable, compassionate, responsive, professional are just a few words I would use to describe his practice.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Palm Harbor, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
