It is wise to do your research before making a major decision, like picking your lawyer. I am so grateful I did. After calling through a list of potential lawyers, Bob stuck out. His intrigue, engagement, and understanding of the law were made very clear during our call. It was an easy decision in hindsight. Not only was Bob able to get the best possible result for my case, he also handled the entire process with an level of professionalism that made the stressful moments much easier to handle. Thank you so much Bob!! You're a lifesaver!

Bob went to work for me on my case and did not stop until it was dismissed! Bob saved my life in Panama City Beach. I was involved in a car accident that was not my fault on Highway 98 in PCB when a car turned in front of me going into Culvers causing me to TBone them and total both our vehicles. The over zealous officer was convinced he needed to conduct a DUI investigation, this was during bike week and the same officer charged at least 5 other people that night with DUI after I was charged. I was not intoxicated and there were no signs of impairment. I used my rights to remain silent and refuse all tests which another lawyer had advised me to do before, the police officer did not like this. I was booked and charged with DUI with causing serious bodily injury. The other involved party was not actually hurt she was taken to the hospital to be checked out and was fine, but the police were trying to inflate the charges the most they could. I told this officer no 6 times in 5 minutes that I was using my rights of refusal and my right to remain silent and he kept pushing. Bob was the only lawyer that believed in me and my case and that it could be dismissed, all others said they could only possibly get it dropped down to reckless. Bob fought for a year through 5 different prosecutors (they kept quitting) for a full dismissal almost going to trial twice and through a plea deal I rejected from the state. The case was finally dismissed almost a year after the accident thanks to Bob. He was very reasonable and down to earth and gives it to you straight. Bob and his wonderful team took care of me by keeping me well informed and easing my anxiety from the full weight of the FDOJ coming down on me. They kept hope alive for me. I hope to never find myself in a situation like this again, but if its ever in the Florida Panhandle Bob will be my first call. I could not be happier with the outcome. I recommend Bob to the moon. Thank you so much Bob again for fighting for me and saving me from the Florida Department of Justice. I wish you the best!!!

Contacted Mr. Sombathy on a Sunday and requested to talk, he called me immediately and within 20 minutes was handling very pressing issues. The greatest part was he not only got to work fast, handled the problem professionally but assured me to stay calm and let him handle the rest. His dedication, perseverance and honest in one of the worst times of my life was something I could never repay him for and I'm so thankful. Financially, he was also very reasonable for the huge burden he took off my shoulders. Thank you again!

Dealing with a misdemeanor traffic violation and William went above and behind to insure I was treated fair and that my CDL license would have minimal impact. Very respectful, hard working, on point with communication and definitely a blessing to his field of work.

Chad Templeton is by far the best attorney I have ever had the privilege of being represented by. He went above and beyond to handle the multiple cases I had and I could not be any happier or satisfied with his performance and exceptional capabilities. The way he pursues his cases is hard to come by in an attorney and his persistence is unbelievable. Not only do I recommend Mr. Templeton, I strongly encourage anyone having criminal legal matters to obtain his representation. Thank you for all the hard work you put in for me, Chad. If I ever find myself in another jam, you will be the first one I call.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Panama City, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
