As for the process, Colin McMichen gave me a frank preliminary assessment of how my case was likely to play out. I was comfortable from the beginning of our attorney-client relationship, that I was able to have regular communications with him. He gave me easy instructions to follow. I was not rushed in anyway, he took time to ask questions and answer questions at the beginning to get to know me. He was very easy to talk with. Being in two different states, we did everything via email and phone, with no complications. No surprises...just thankful, thank you Colin for your hard work and Sharon also. So, all and all.... he’s alright for an Auburn fan.... Roll Tide

While searching for a lawyer for my husband I ran into many different lawyers most ridiculously expensive or they just did not seem confident enough I reached out to Mrs downing after he heard of her through someone he was incarcerated with she instantly took weight off of my shoulders. She not only did everything we requested but understood my situation as well she had him home the first time she stepped into the court room. Her and Mr Shepard are a great pair I was beyond satisfied with their service and they blew my mind. If you are looking for a attorney thats affordable and the best in the business Shepard law is where you want to be

We hired Jean to represent our son, and she did a great job. She was responsive to our questions, even after hours. All the charges were dismissed. Also, we live in another state, and none of us had to travel to Florida, which saved us a good chunk of money.

Ms. Downing worked on my case before the recent problems of Veterans trying to get their benefits from VA employees who are not Veterans, made the national news. Having a 4.0 GPA in paralegal and criminal justice studies-graduating Summa Cum Laude soon, my perception is that any parties not approving Ms. Downing;s work and opposing my excellent rating, should support their position by sending me their 4.0 transcript, I will send anyone mine.

When I got hurt from a car accident, I did not know what to do. I called Adam's law firm and got a meeting with him that day. He was upfront with me and let me know all of the proponents that would be attributed to my case. I had many worries because I work full-time and I was worried that I would miss too much work that it could negatively impact my job. Adam set me up with a chiropractor that was available past 5:00 and open on the weekends. I was able to treat for my injuries and miss the least work possible. I would recommend Adam to anyone. He was always honest, up front and had an amazing team that always helped me with any of my needs. I heard nightmare stories about people getting into accidents and having horrible attorneys. I am glad that this was NOT my experience with Adam. If you don't want a bad experience I would recommend him to you because he knows what he is doing and he will make it an easy process.

Adam recently handled my car accident. I was referred to the firm by a friend after I got into a pretty bad car accident. I called their office and spoke with Adam. He worked very hard for me on my personal injury case and I am very pleased with the outcome. He was kind, professional and intelligent.

Mr. Sauline is AWKWARD to speak with and socially off putting, kind of like a creepy uncle, in my humble opinion. His office assistant is a great lady to speak with and very pleasant to deal with. He claims when your hire " AL SAULINE YOU GET AL SAULINE" but on atleast two occasions without letting me know other lawyers stood in for him at my appearances. This makes you look silly when your standing there looking for Mr.Sauline but another lawyer steps up. My case was super simple to get handled and he was the cheapest quote I got so I did use his services but I would have spent a little more money and went with someone else if I had know these issue before I went to his office. Hope this helps someone. Glad to ad and specific case details to legitimize the review. Sauline pays for 5 star reviews and spends his time guarding his online reputation

Al Sauline is a horrible lawyer. He was disciplined by the Florida State Bar last year.( https://www.floridabar.org/public/acap/disc-docs/?icn=202100358&member=11662 ) There is a review on Al Sauline's Yelp who said they complained to the bar. So I assume the Admonishment is the results of that unhappy client in 2022. Our situations are very similar. I hired him regarding misdemeanor case where the evidence clearly contradicts the allegations. The states witness says on recording he did not see the alleged actions. I go into meet Al to discuss the case and he no legal insight other than "the case is weak". He has a deal from the state that I would of got without a lawyer. He says "ok you don't want the first deal they're giving! We will goto trial great news for me its more money!!!" .... I went and immediately got a new lawyer and we will get better results. Al is not a fighter he doesn't really care. This is not the attitude your lawyer should have. You should not have to just settle on the first deal, especially when the state has no chance at proving the case. He was not willing to review the case at all with me. No discussion of the evidence, nothing at all. I have never come across a lawyer not willing to discuss the evidence with his client. Al doesn't want to file motions or negotiate with the DA. For him its take the deal or pay me more for trial. Also all these generic positive reviews are bought and paid for, Sauline pays for his reviews. Sauline keeps suppressing my reviews on google. Sauline is a horrible attorney and the Florida Bar agrees. All of these 5 star reviews are fake. He is trying to bury my review so you don’t read it

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Panama City Beach, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
