David Ackerman is by far THE most fair judge I ever had the unfortunate pleasure of being in front of. When I was a younger man the man really helped me in so many ways as a judge that I was in front of more than once. He also has an uncanny way of seeing the truth in people as he did in me and the testimony me and my family gave. As a lawyer I have to say that if I ever needed one now, many many years later, (knock on wood that I don't) I would absolutely hire him without any hesitation as I know that he is a man of integrity and has a vast knowledge of law and has many many years of experience. A truly wonderful man. Thank you sir, for everything you did that changed my life.

I was incarcerated and had been on probation prior to this incarceration when Mr. Ackerman was still a judge and had placed me on misdemeanor probation. This time I was facing federal charges and I asked my father to speak with Mr. Ackerman regarding my case. Being from New York we had some common ground and he was so kind and helpful to my dad regardingy case even though it wasn't necessary to hire him based on his advice. My father Robert Militello really enjoyed the time spent speaking with Mr. Ackerman and gave him a book about New York as a gesture of gratitude and friendship. Thank you kindly Mr. Ackerman god your help, Gratefully, Greg

This is one of the most if no the most honest and helpful attorney I have ever spoken with. He is not concerned with draining your bank account and does not keep information from you that would allow you to help yourself. He has one the best legal assistant I have ever spoken with and she is happy to answer questions on the phone before you are even a paying customer. She gives you real information that can help you and doesn't beat around the bush. He is a good man with a good heart as well and he puts his heart into your case. He involves himself fully and will take all the burden and pressure of you. He will show up for you anytime you need him and will give you insider information about what to expect and he is the only attorney who has ever given me judges schedules and told me their personalities. He is very respected and was an honest and fair judge for many years. I consider him my attorney and have gone to him on 3 occasions for advice though I did not need to hire an attorney thanks to him. I actually feel bad and I hope in a way I wish I had a reason to use him now because I want to actually be a paying customer. He will work with you on the price and it's obvious that his focus is never on the money. I would not use anyone else in town except Barry Baroset but his price tag is about 3-4 times David's. He is a rare and dying breed of attorney and I hope he takes a protégé under his wing so his knowledge and approach at the law is passed down. I would love to sit and just talk with him about his time serving in Pensacola because he has been around so long and has been involved in many issues that matter greatly. He knew my grandfather and actually represented my grandmother in their divorce. My grandfather was a criminal defense attorney as well and they both highly respected each other. He has such a knowledge of the legal system as well as a vast understanding of the politics that surround it.

Ackerman is well known locally for his consideration of people that have had problems and helping them with both the legal system and finding solutions to their underlying problems. No attorney can hold your hand in those situations, but Ackerman goes out of his way to see that you can find the help you need to be successful if you are put on probation or other matters like counseling. He doesnt leave you to just flounder. He really goes the extra mile WITH you, as far as is practical

I looked around at a few different lawyers before being told about Mr Ackerman. Him and his staff are the most dedicated and wonderful group I have ever met. Kept me informed, gave advice and actually fought for me. Can't say enough about him. I tell everyone who my lawyer was and I can say that proudly.

My experience with the Penton Law Center has been very positive. My initial meeting with the firm was informative and not "pushy" at all. Christy takes a personal approach in all of her dealings regarding the sensitive topic of estate planning. She always responds quickly to my questions.

Excellent lawyer! Hired for a debt collection that went way better than I could've imagined. Hired again for other legal help and has been an overall wonderful experience. I even contact her with non-related legal questions and she immediately gets back to me with answers. I found my lawyer for life! Thank you Christy!

If you're looking for an attorney you can trust to represent you in a matter that also keeps YOUR best interests in mind, I highly suggest Ryan Barnett. Ryan Barnett and Rebecca Bolling recently handled a case for me and I cannot say enough about their EXCELLENT communication skills, brutal honesty in potential scenarios that could play out, and client-first attitude. I felt fully informed throughout every step of the case, and every piece of advice evidenced they had my best interests at heart. You can trust Ryan Barnett when you need legal advice or representation!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pensacola, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
