Pros
1
Highly skilled, experienced, and knowledgeable attorneys
“Rick is a phenomenal attorney. He is diligent and aggressive and fights for his clients.”
2
Personalized and compassionate client service
“Phil and his team made what was an incredibly difficult and overwhelming time so much easier to navigate. Their team was compassionate, professional, and dedicated to helping me every step of the way.”
3
Excellent communication and responsiveness
“They always responded within hours (sometimes minutes) lol. They were extremely responsive and made me feel like a priority.”
4
Successful case outcomes and high settlements
“They did an excellent job mediating and settling her case. She is relieved that this matter is resolved and highly recommends Rick and his firm for any of your legal needs.”
5
Strong reputation and endorsements from other legal professionals
“I have referred clients to Mr. Ellsley for more than 20 years. They have all been extremely satisfied with his legal services as he always achieves the best results for his clients. Mr. Ellsley is an excellent attorney with a stellar reputation in the legal community that I endorse without reservation.”
Cons
1
Initial strong service that declines after retaining the firm
“Not only was my car totaled but I was injured. Mr. Sobol not only guided me through the process, but continually reminded me that taking care of myself was the priority. Mr. Sobol, as well as the entire office staff, including Mr Ellsley, were always available and returned my calls promptly. I highly recommend working with this firm if the need arises~ Thank you Mr. Sobol. However, after they received their contract fee, I felt a NOTICEABLE difference. Like, I would call Scott and he would text back he's in a meeting and not even call back.”
2
Occasional communication issues and lack of responsiveness
“Whenever I had a question he answered me quickly and thoroughly. I was blown away with the entire experience. My settlement was substantially more than I expected and I could not be happier!!!! I have dealt with many attorneys over the past 25 years in business and other matters and Phil stands head and shoulders above each and every one of them. I would HIGHLY recommend Phil and his team !!!!!!!! [...] Similar to my family member's case, I had endured sustained injuries and incurred substantial expenses related to the three car collision. Mr. Snyder and his team provided the highest standards of professionalism through on-going communication and follow-up services. Unlike most personal injury lawyers, Dr. Snyder shows a true concern for the well-being of his clients. He performed with impeccable manners throughout the duration of the case. [...] I can say the same about Sean and I would highly recommend him as well. He is patient and knowledgeable and seems to care about his clients.”

I had an excellent experience working with this lawyer. He was incredibly kind and accommodating, even going the extra mile to set up a Zoom meeting when I couldn’t make a long-distance call. He took the time to explain everything clearly and patiently, ensuring I fully understood the situation. His professionalism and thoughtfulness really stood out. I completely recommend his services to anyone in need of a reliable and understanding attorney!

I can’t say enough good things about Mr. Carlos Amor! I was dealing with a super tough real estate issue that I honestly thought was hopeless. But Carlos stepped in and completely turned things around. From the start, he made me feel confident and taken care of. He knew exactly what to do and didn’t miss a single detail. It felt like he went above and beyond at every step, and the results were better than I ever could have imagined. What I really appreciated was how easy Carlos was to work with - always clear, responsive, and on top of everything. It made a super stressful situation so much easier to deal with. Thanks to Carlos Amor, my problem was completely resolved, and I couldn’t be happier. If you’re looking for someone who’s not just great at what they do but truly cares, Carlos is the one!

I hired Amy to help me sell my mom's house. My mother had passed away a few months before and I wanted to make sure that everything with the sale was done properly. Amy was very professional and thorough. She was patient and explained everything to me clearly. She guided me and helped me make the best decisions. Amy handled every issue that came up, from problems with the buyer to removing liens on the property. She also made sure I wasn't taken advantage of with the sale. Her advice was extremely helpful and I definitely learned a lot. She made a very emotionally draining process bearable. I don't know what I would have done without her expertise. I highly recommend Amy to anyone in need of a real estate attorney.

I hired Amy to review the lease for a commercial space, and I could not be happier with her services! She was extremely thorough in reviewing the lease and helped me to craft the best strategy for negotiating terms with the landlord. There were many clauses put forward by the landlord which I otherwise would have dismissed as unimportant, but Amy pointed out potential scenarios that could have had an unfavorable outcome for me as a tenant. In many instances, I found her counsel to be more valuable than the tenant broker working on my behalf. I learned a great deal from Amy, and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a real estate lawyer, whether they be a landlord or tenant.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Plantation, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
