I reached out to this firm to know if they would be willing to represent me for a SSD claim, for which I had been awaiting a decision on my reconsideration request for over 2 years. I was in touch with Tina Ehrenkaufer throughout the process, who was so helpful and kind. At first, she recommended I find another law firm because they were not specialized in International cases. Tina was so honest about it and provided me with all the information she could, to make my case even stronger, and to help me find another attorney who could represent me. So I asked her to reconsider: I could help them with the International aspect of my claim if they were willing to take it on. She checked with her manager, Chrissy Jones, they agreed, and we signed the contracts. However, my reconsideration request moved from step 3 to step 4 of 5, supposedly meaning I had been medically approved, so they held off on submitting the contracts to the SSA while we were awaiting the decision, as it seemed likely I wouldn't be needing their help after all. Up until here, I would evidently give a 5 star rating for Tina's honesty, kindness, and hard work. My issues with this firm started a couple of months thereafter. All of a sudden, the SSA emails me a denial letter which had supposedly been mailed to me 73 days prior. Since the deadline to file an appeal is calculated as 60 days after presumed notification, which is assumed to be 5 days after issuance of the denial letter, and even though I could prove I was unaware of the denial until it was emailed to me (I had been emailing the SSA for an update and had screenshots of my online account showing it was still stuck in step 4 of 5), Chrissy Jones told me they could no longer represent me because the denial letter was “ineligible for further consideration”, “due to the expiration of the appeal period” per “the established rules and guidelines”. I verified the denial letter again and noted that the timeframe to appeal was 60 days after notification, so since I could prove that I hadn't been notified until 2 months after the letter was issued, I was still on time. I explained this to Chrissy, to which she acknowledged she was well aware of that fact that I was still on time to appeal, but since there was an added difficulty to my case, they preferred not to take it on. It is quite regrettable that a law firm who is supposed to defend people with disabilities' rights drops someone in such a vulnerable situation due to the SSA's foul play. However, what is truly concerning here is Chrissy's initial assertion that I was no longer entitled to appeal. Most people look up to law firms to advise them on their case. As such, if a law firm asserts that their prescription has elapsed, they might take it for a fact without double checking. There is a big difference between the appeal period being expired, and a law firm not wanting to take the case on due to an added difficulty (having to prove timely filing). Chrissy's first email could have led someone to potentially give up on their right to appeal thinking that they were past the deadline, when in fact, they were not. So 1 star for Chrissy Jones, leaving a total of 3 stars for the firm...
