It's good to know there are still GOOD GUYS out there! Let me first say I didn't hire Blair Clarke because he gave me the information I needed over the phone. In researching attorneys on the phone, I felt rushed to spit out my question before I felt like the meter was running. Blair patiently listened, asked questions, was quickly able to assess my situation and took the time to listen and provide his expert advice. Within the space of a ten minute relationship Blair managed to show professionalism, empathy and expert advice to a non-client. He really showed that he’s the right person for me!

Out on my boat last Memorial Day weekend, I was stopped for what was called a “routine safety inspection”. During the inspection, the officer asked if I had anything alcoholic to drink today. I replied yes. Having only had one drink, I was comfortable that he would finish his inspection and we would continue on with our day on the water. Instead, he tied my boat up to his and requested that I come over to his boat for a field sobriety test. After I was in the boat, he untied my boat stating that the water was too rough to leave the boats tied together. He proceeded with the test, which he said that I failed. I was handcuffed and taken to a nearby boat ramp where they had a mobile trailer set up for administering breathalyzer tests - which I refused. I was charged with BUI, taken to jail and released about ten hours later. Fast forward to Hebert and Associates: Blair Clarke took my case and fought it with confidence. His knowledge of the law was apparent and reassuring. The fact that the water was too rough to leave the boats tied together, but okay enough for me to take the field sobriety test was contradictory. A second sobriety test was never given once on land. In the end, Blair had my BUI case dropped - I paid a ticket for my expired flares and am enjoying the sunshine once again!

Blair has been such an asset to my family; mainly my son. He has dedicated himself to protecting and defending others. I felt the need to commend him on his sincerity, devotion and belief in our young people. Hebert and Associates, in my opinion, is the most outstanding law firm in Pinellas County. When I needed someone the most, I reached out to this law firm, and found two incredible attorneys that were calming, reassuring and understanding of my families needs. Parents, it is a struggle raising our children today and it is difficult to help them through the challenges they face, but with the help of Hebert and Associates (especially you Blair), our family is back on track, and I pray it will remain that way. Parents, write this name down, if God forbid you are ever in need of an outstanding law firm who truly cares, whether it be for your children or for yourself. I thank you so very much for your outstanding representation and your dedication.

I was involved in a serious accident with a pedestrian. The accident was not my fault, so I was not arrested. However, the officer noticed the scent of alcohol on my breath and instructed me I needed to take a blood test due to the seriousness of the accident. My results were above the legal limit. Because I was not at fault for the accident, the state charged me with DUI and nothing else. I was relieved and thought we would not fight the charge. But Blair reviewed the report and said we should fight it. It didn't take long, and we won. Because he was previously a state attorney, Blair knew we would win. He argued that the officer did not have the right to take a blood test because the accident report indicated I was not visibly intoxicated. The blood test results were taken out of the evidence, and the state dropped its charges. I thought it was risky to fight the charge, and I am so thankful that Blair is my lawyer. Blair is the only reason I did not get a DUI.

He was not take any responsibility for his office when they made damaging mistakes on important court paperwork. He just stood there in court and said nothing!!! He had a lot of information and he never brought it up because he told me later he didn't know of that. Untrue he just didn't read it and was not prepared. I was overcharged for his representation and to make matters worse he did not return phone calls.

I hired Donnie recently in Pinellas County and I'm beyond grateful I did. He was proactive immediately after taking over my case. From the very beginning, he made me feel like he truly cared and wasn't in it just for the money. I remember Donnie told me, he'd fight for me 110% and thats exactly what he did!

I ran into a situation in Pinellas county. Hired him the next day or so. Yeah, it cost some money. Very much worth it. He totally gave me a worry free representation. I didn't even show up for a single court date. He conveyed what needed to be conveyed to whomever it needed to be conveyed to understand the dynamics of what was really going on in the case. And he won. Has the right legal foundation. Aggressive approach. Hard working. He has a complete network. Lot of years working with all of the different outfits that concern law in his area. Stop looking for any other attorney right now. You just hire this guy cuz I said so.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Petersburg, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
