On April 24, 2017 on our way out to dinner , driving west on Bee Ridge Road towards US41 , we were t-boned by a commercial van which was trying to make the light at Bee Ridge and the Trail. He was using the turn lane illegally , as we were already in the turn lane to make a left turn to come into the back parking lot at Bonefish Grill.Fortunately, we were all able to get out of the car on our own, although my wife had learned later that she had multiple fractures of her pelvis, and that summer needed extensive spinal surgery as a result of the accident , which resulted in some permanent disabilities.The car was deemed a total loss the very next day . We interviewed Drake Buckman of Buckman & Buckman within the next two days, and had an immediate rapport with him. Unfortunately, the driver of the other vehicle had an expired license, and only the barest of insurance coverage . Fortunately, we had higher limits on our auto policy , which turned out to be significant when dealing with all the medical and personal injury claims. Florida, being a no-fault state , complicated matters in dealing with our insurance company and Medicare. Drake had made a promise to us that he would handle everything , which his firm gratefully did. The hospital where my wife had the spinal surgery was in New York, which also proved to be a hassle in dealing with the insurance claims. Buckman & Buckman dealt with all these issues, and the coordination of our insurances , in a very seamless matter. Further complications arose , when Medicare through a third party collection firm , tried to have us repay benefits, personally, that we were not responsible for. The firm dealt very expeditiously with these claims, and virtually reduced our liability to only several hundred dollars. To say that we were very pleased with Buckman and Buckman , would be a gross understatement. They virtually handled everything, and we received our settlement a little over a year later. If the driver had better liability insurance, or personal assets our award would have been much larger. Under the circumstances we feel that the firm negotiated the best deal for us , and made the process as painless as possible. We have no reservations in recommending Buckman & Buckman as a very reliable and conscientious personal injury attorney .
