As a practicing attorney myself, I have referred multiple clients to David Shapiro. In each and every instance, those clients were extremely pleased with the way their cases were handled and the high level of results David Shapiro was able to obtain for them. David Shapiro is one of the most knowledgeable and professional attorneys that I have encouraged my own clients to engage with respect to practice areas outside of my own areas of expertise.

I was injured in a car accident when I discovered the law firm of Shapiro and Delgado. I am pleased with the professionalism and compassion Mr. Shapiro, Adam, and the entire firm greeted me with. During a time of such uncertainty and discomfort, I was constantly kept abreast of any and all correspondence of the case. I truly appreciate the time, effort and concern the team put into my case. I would recommend this firm to anyone unfortunate enough to be in a personal injury accident.

My spouse was knocked down by another, resulting in the "personal injury" of a fracture, surgery and rehabilitation. That fall directly contributed to further falls and broken bones that occurred after "we" hired David. I, a formerly practicing attorney in a very technical field, became my spouse's full-time and supervisory caregiver. When first meeting David, we noticed that he had a very calm demeanor, while quickly demonstrating the legal understanding of our case, and describing his ability to successfully pursue it (or, I suspect, in some cases, not). He innately struck us as honest in his assessment. Like I expect he does consistently, he exhibited true care for us when we were seeking his services during a very stressful period in our lives. He demonstrates his abilities in his thoughtful communications with his clients and their other related professionals (e.g., doctors, attorneys, etc.). When we first met, David explained his initial strategy, derived from his strong experience with various types of personal injury cases. He kept us updated as that strategy evolved over time when new facts and circumstances arose, so that we remained calm and confident too. His management of our case was focused, timely, comprehensive and well-communicated to us. Unfortunately, my spouse died prior to the case being resolved. David began dealing with our estate planning lawyer, who was handling the probate of my spouse's estate. They worked very well together, and our estate planning attorney developed great respect for David during the process. David coordinated both of their efforts so that I had no stress about the case nor its effects on probate. He ultimately settled the case and wrapped up the details. I only needed to execute detailed Closing Statement and deposit the settlement proceeds. Despite my spouse's death in the midst of the case (which could have been very detrimental to it), David settled the case for 98% of what we were asking. This was directly the result of his experience, attentiveness to our case, ability to quickly and effectively adjust his approach as needed, and his power of persuasion. I would STRONGLY recommend him to anyone in need of a personal injury attorney.

Mr. McIntosh is by far the best criminal defense attorney in the Manatee County and Sarasota county area. I’m not proud to say that I have needed hired representation more than one time. Mr. McIntosh is who I have used every time. I have also referred other people to Bret and he has proven himself time and time again. It doesn’t matter what legal matters you are facing, You will not regret hiring Bret McIntosh.

Mr. Hogreve was a pleasure to work with on the closing of my condominium. He and his Paralegal Kathy were instrumental in making sure we closed on our closing date due to their commitment in communicating effectively with my lender. The closing was flawless and extremely expedient. This was my first home buying experience and I'm so thankful they were there to walk me through everything making a stressful situation not stressful at all. I will recommend his firm to anyone who is looking for closing services, estate planning and incorporation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sarasota, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
