Choosing an attorney when going through a devastating process such as a non amicable divorce is critical. I felt like my life was turned upside down and my heart was ripped into pieces. My biggest fear was hurting my two beautiful children in the process, and so protecting them was my main priority. I consulted with several divorce attorneys and the level of anxiety just kept increasing. It wasn't until I met Natalie Lemos that I finally felt safe and hopeful. She had been highly recommended by a friend and the minute I consulted with her I instantly knew she would be my "forever attorney". You see, Natalie was totally aligned with my family values. She is a woman of integrity and her main focus is the children's well being. All decisions were based on protecting us as a new family, with our new future. That is something a parent always can appreciate, it is priceless. Natalie guides you through the steps to consider pre and post divorce. She really cares about her clients, their financial stability and emotional state. You need her, she's immediately there. She will not make you wait. She literally spoils her clients. Shes effective and fast. She's not an attorney that prolongs the process. Her honesty and loyalty are the things I admire the most. She's strong in court and in mediation, I always felt well represented and at ease. She's phenomenal! I respect her for her outstanding mentoring and leadership during and after my divorce. She gave me hope when I was going through the darkest time in my life, I will forever be grateful for giving light to my life again.

Although divorce is not ideal, I’ve gone down that unfortunate path. Having Ms. Lemos on my side made a profound and positive difference. She ensured my kids were untouched by the unfortunate divorce process. Natalie's advisement helped me to prioritize my contentions. Her keen understanding of the nuances of family law coupled with her compassion and empathy for “the family”, made it possible for me and my-ex wife to find an amenable solution. So much so that today we are on good terms. Personally, I discourage my friends from pursuing divorce if at all possible. But once divorce becomes inevitable, then Ms. Natalie Lemos is the right person to have on your side! She’s smart, knowledgeable, balanced and particularly clear on helping you pinpoint what matters most. I highly recommend Natalie Lemos.

I am a partner in a law firm who has been practicing for over 20 years. I hired Max to handle my divorce. As a high-earner with a stay at home mom and three kids, it was a challenging case. With the mom's serious mental health issues, it was a tremendously challenging case. He carried me through the hardest years of my life and delivered the most unexpected and beautiful result I couldn't have even hoped for. You are making a mistake if you do not hire Max for your case. Simply top notch.

I hired Max to handle my separation from my children's mother when she wanted to move them to another city. Max worked tirelessly on my case, contacting me frequently, working with experts, the guardian ad litem, and the opposing party's lawyer. We were prepared to go to trial, but Max managed to finagle an extremely beneficial settlement at the last minute that I truly believe reflects the best possible outcome that I would have received in court. I now spend almost every day with my children, and I could not be happier with my choice to hire Max.

A Special Soul. Choosing Max Leinoff for my divorce case was the answer to my prayers. Especially for a woman like me going through a very hard moment in her life, having Max representing me lightened up the entire process. Max was always present. He was there for me all the time. Never did I wait more than two minutes for an answer or a return phone call. He is an elegant and incredibly prepared lawyer. His knowledge and his sensitivity is definitely a unique combination. I always felt protected with him by my side. He is always on top of all situations and his goal is always the best possible thing for his client. I will never forget being in Court the first time. As he was explaining the situation to the Judge, I was like a petrified statue, I couldn’t breathe. But even in this intense situation, he was able to steal a smile from me due to his protective and professional attitude. Max is an incredible professional who works with passion, going above and beyond, and not limiting himself to the scriptures of the law books. He is able to read between the lines. He is funny but also can be very tough when necessary. He is a special soul. Thank you Max, you really do make a difference and I appreciate you.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of South Miami, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
