I came to Bill through a referral. My father owned properties in Florida and after his death I needed an attorney to assist with the transfers. Bill was very helpful. He promptly assessed what my needs would be and was able to provide a quote on costs and time for the transactions. He was knowledgeable, explained everything thoroughly, and executed all the transactions in a timely manner. From the initial visit and throughout the entire process I was kept informed of the status. He also brought in other agents required to complete all the transactions who were equally efficient. I do not live in the state and to have this wonderful connection was a blessing. His kind and mannerly demeanor made it a comfort to complete this task.

John is an excellent attorney. Right away, I could tell he was passionate about what he does. In my personal injury case which was a matter of premise liability, he got me even more than I could have ever expected. Additionally, he kept me updated every step of the way and was very compassionate towards my plight. I 100% recommend him for any and all legal needs.

John Hornbeck assisted me in a personal injury case in which the injury hindered both my work and my recreational activities. He provided me guidance every step of the way and was very supportive of my choices in treatment for the injury. Most importantly, he was able to settle my case quickly and for significantly more money than I anticipated. Thank you Mr. Hornbeck!

We retained Ms. Senentz and another attorney at the same firm to represent us in opposing a state's motion to change the placement of our foster child and to argue for our adoption petition. They were both thorough in their preparation and exceptionally professional in the courtroom. Following thirteen hours of testimony and arguments, the judge ruled in our favor. We could not be more pleased with the outcome, and attribute the result to the outstanding counsel we received. I would highly recommend Ms. Senentz for work in the field of family law, adoptions and foster care. She is the consummate professional, and is easy to work with.

Very unhappy with a lackadaisical approach to case management and execution. Peggy came recommended for friendliness but in the end resulted in poor execution and a high number of hours charged for marginal execution of her duties. Keep looking for a more well rounded attorney with a zest for their profession.

Peggy came to us with the highest recommendations and we were beyond satisfied with everything she brought to the table. Her knowledge of Florida family law is comprehensive and she went the extra mile to familiarize herself with our state's adoption laws as well. With only 2 hours notice before our daughter was born we made contact with her and she set the wheels in motion that would bring our family together forever. Peggy never sugar coated anything and gave straight-forward, honest advice. From the first phone call to the day of our finalization I felt supported and well informed about every step of the process. Our hectic adoption was made far less stressful by dealing with someone as professional and well versed as Peggy. Her office staff was always polite and helpful. The only reason I marked 4/5 under responsiveness is due to the excellence of her services Peggy is a very busy lady with what I am sure is a rather large client base; I was clearly not the only one making demands of her time and attention but she always made sure to get back to me (even if it wasn't as fast as my new mom-in-progress nerves wanted) sometimes just to let me know there was no news yet, she never left me hanging. The personalized service I received ranged from Ms. Senentz using up her entire Saturday at the hospital with me waiting for my daughter to be discharged to meeting with me several times over the next two weeks as we pieced together the necessary paper work to satisfy all of the ICPC demands. I truly cannot give enough praise to Peggy and everyone at the Clarie Law Office, I felt like family and was treated that way.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of South Pasadena, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
