My husband and I can only speak highly of Attorney, Dennis A. Lopez and his team. We were impressed with the very high standard of service and respect we received. Mr. Lopez is superbly efficient and professional. He and his staff are extremely knowledgeable in the field of personal injury and know how to deal with complex issues which can arise. I was extremely pleased on how I was kept up to date with everything that was going on with my case, including the after hour calls when needed. Mr. Lopez and his team were extremely responsive to our questions and even addressed the anticipated questions before we had a chance to ask. Thank you for your ceaseless hard work, dedication, and commitment. Most of all thank you for caring which you clearly do and that makes the difference between a lawyer and a very good lawyer. We would not hesitate to recommend your services to anybody we may encounter who may require such services. Thank you for making us feel like we were a part of your family!

I believe the comments left about Dennis A Lopez in regards to a Traffic Citation is a mistaken identity. There is more than one Dennis A Lopez in Tampa Florida. The Dennis A Lopez located at 210 N Pierce Street is a Personal Injury and Civil Litigation Attorney who is highly respected among his peers and clients. I have used Mr. Lopez for advice and legal help on many occasions through out the years. Mr. Lopez has proven to be an ethical and professional individual. I would recommend Mr. Lopez to anyone of my family members without hesitation.

Deeply commited to every aspect of his clients' lives. Genuinely cares. As an attorney, his credentials, knowledge, skill and reputation are absolutely impeccable. As a person, even more outstanding. Mr. Lopez made me feel like I was part of his family. I have known him and part of his family now for over 20 years. Aside from his qualifications as an attorney, which I might add are impeccable, he has proven to me and others I have recommended he cares about the individual not only the client. He does exhaustive research and has an excellent team he works with in preparing your case to represent you. I can say from personal experience he exceeded my expectations in many ways. He is a rare breed in that he is not ruled by the almighty dollar. He puts himself on the line for you in every way possible and goes the extra mile leaving no stone unturned. I have received information directly from Mr. Lopez via e-mail, text, office phone and from his cell phone, it made me feel confident and secure that he cared. Mr. Lopez always made sure he kept me up to date on the progress of my case and was a pleasure to work with.

I used this lawyer to represent me for a speeding ticket that was not my fault. I paid him $150 so that he could get this case dismissed. Not only did I lose the $150.00 I paid him, but I got stuck paying the $256.00 ticket anyway. He had the nerve to write in his letter that "the good news is" I have no points and did not have to go to traffic school. Traffic school would have been less to pay than what I had to pay to the Court and him. I do not believe he personally represented me at all but sent someone else to my hearing instead. He sucks! Don't use him, you'll truly be disappointed. Merry Christmas Lopez! That's $256 I won't have to spend on my kid!

Dina, met a very high standard in Availability, Attitude, and Ability. I call it three tools. Also feel free to use me for a recommendation as / from an out of town Dad who was looking for trusted counsel for a loved one in a legal bind due to driving offenses with related parole violation.

Dina worked with my wife and I when an unfortunate incident occurred and we had some outstanding traffic violations for toll roads. Mrs. Sheridan gave me a fair quote and did not charge anything additional to the wage we agreed upon. She was professional throughout the entire process and kept us both informed as things progressed. Having a great deal of experience working with attorneys both professionally and personally, it is definitely refreshing to be able to reach and receive timely responses from hired council. I would highly recommend Dina Busciglio Sheridan for any traffic offense cases.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tampa, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
