I wish there were 10 stars or 100 to rate Mark Howard.I called Mark on very short notice. Less than a week before my court date,in which the case has been on going for almost three years with a different lawyer I hired. My previous lawyer practically left me hanging and Mark picked up all the pieces. I kid you not this man educated himself on my child support modification case within hours! I hired him on Friday,my case was 4 days after, which means he even worked the weekend to get caught up on my case. He was constantly communicating with me,as well as his assistant. They kept me informed at all times. He did for me in a matter of hours what my previous lawyer couldn't do in years. I was at ease, fully trusted Mark to the point that I could have let him make decisions for me because the interest of me and my kids were his top priority. He showed me outlines of everything he did, he called me and reached out to explain every possibility in my case and any outcome that may or may not happen. His assistant Joni was also very professional and always kept contact to inform me of any thing regarding my case. I cannot express the amount of gratitude that I have for this lawyer and the staff. He is very straight forward, got me back on track if my emotions started taking over. He is very direct, he explains your payments, what the invoice describes, what his next steps are. You will never feel left out in your case, you will always be reassured and confident that he will do his very best and have your interest at heart . My case was a child support modification like I stated ,but I'm more than positive that any case he handles will be handled with precision, professionalism and integrity. I am beyond satisfied with the outcome of my case. This man takes his job seriously and any case given to him his just as important as the next. YOU WILL NOT REGRET HIRING HIM. I wish I would have done so sooner.if there was an option to leave a video review I would have done so,only so anyone contemplating on hiring a lawyer could see the sincerity I have when speaking of him and the satisfaction I feel when I explain how wonderful him and his staff are. You can't go wrong with him. Thank you Mark for giving me faith in lawyers after I lost all hope.

Mr. Howard was recommended to me by a family friend who knew of his work. In the last two years, Mark Howard has helped me twice. I can honestly say he is an all-in lawyer who truly cares about his client and their story. He asks probing questions but intently listens to the answers because you will hear him repeat it weeks down the road. He is an experienced, knowledgeable lawyer with helpful, caring staff to back him up. He is an outstanding professional who produces results and solves issues quickly and efficiently. One of the many things that I respect him for is his honesty and the fact that he sets clear expectations. His priority is getting the client the best deal, which he did for me. I will always recommend him.

Mr. Howard was my attorney for my recent divorce. I had originally been Pro Se for most of the procedural filings. However, my divorce was going to trial and I knew I need an attorney now. I retained Mr. Howard on very short notice with only 10 days to prepare. I explained the details of the proceedings thus far to Mr. Howard and gave him all the filings. Mr Howard was very up front from the start. He explained that he could help me but could not promise anything. I was very impressed on how organized and thorough he was in representing me. In court, Mr. Howard was extremely knowledgeable of family law and proved his worth by being overly prepared, which resulted in a very favorable outcome for me. I avoided having to pay out an unfair amount of money thanks to Mr. Howard's skill and focus in the courtroom.

Mark does an excellent job explaining what to anticipate upon entering the negotiation process and family law court system - provacative claims by opposing counsel, baseless assertions on the ex-spouse's financial affidavit - to keep us focused on a successful settlement. He effectively explained "pro and cons" of alimony options - lump sum, monthly, rehabilitative - with a practical approach to conflict resolution and ultimately, divorce. His experience and established network, particularly in Hillsborough County, affords him broad access to resources that accelerated my settlement. While his client, Mark was an efficient time manager, and respectful/cognizant of costs of services associated with all aspects of marital dissolution.

Dina, met a very high standard in Availability, Attitude, and Ability. I call it three tools. Also feel free to use me for a recommendation as / from an out of town Dad who was looking for trusted counsel for a loved one in a legal bind due to driving offenses with related parole violation.

Dina worked with my wife and I when an unfortunate incident occurred and we had some outstanding traffic violations for toll roads. Mrs. Sheridan gave me a fair quote and did not charge anything additional to the wage we agreed upon. She was professional throughout the entire process and kept us both informed as things progressed. Having a great deal of experience working with attorneys both professionally and personally, it is definitely refreshing to be able to reach and receive timely responses from hired council. I would highly recommend Dina Busciglio Sheridan for any traffic offense cases.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tampa, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
