Erin Hardister is without a doubt, the brightest attorney out there. Because of her, My Boys will now have the opportunity to go to college. A simple "Thank you" to her in no way would suffice. She is VERY bright, and I Thank God that she's not like other attorneys out there who're just out to get a big lump sum of money and put no effort into it. She is not a 9 to 5'er like most that have represented me in this case that's dragged on for more than 7 years, and I've had some with more than 20 years under their belt, but that means nothing if you're scared to rebut the state and stand up and actually talk to the judge, versus being a scared puppet. I mean, what attorney would send you an email at 10:00pm, OR be willing to take your phone call? This case started in May of 2012. I've had several attorneys. I hired her mid April of 2019, and YESTERDAY, May 1st, she did what all those other attorneys didn't and couldn't do. My Boys are My Absolute EVERYTHING, and because of her, they now will have the Opportunity to go to college. I have no doubt that regardless of whether it was Family Law or Criminal Law, Erin would be on her game......I can truly see her one day being a judge, and a fair one at that, but I'd hope that she'd stay as an attorney so the smart ones that hire her can actually get the help and JUSTICE that they (and their kids if they are in a Family Law Case) deserve!!! In just a couple weeks she did what 3 others couldn't do in 7 years!!! God Blessed My Boys and I with finding and hiring her!! I mean He truly BLESSED My Boys and I cause as previously stated, she's not a 9 to 5'er........she's all in looking to and hitting home runs!!! Thank you beyond ALL Words Erin as you really have now given My Boys the opportunity and chance to go to college!!! God Bless You and Your Family Erin!!! P.S.- One day you'll have the opportunity to be a judge, I truly believe that, but I'd hope that you'd remain an attorney cause ones like you are truly hard to find.........ones that actually care and are not all about the money!!

We hired Erin Hardister when my son's wife fled state with his 2 minor children and refused to return. With Erin's knowledge of the law, hard work, quick actions, constant communication (even on weekends) and commitment to doing what is right and ethical, the children were returned within a week. and parental issues resolved, resulting in a happy ending, which I know is rare. From the beginning, Erin was welcoming, understanding, honest, fair, committed to doing what was right and in the best interest of the children, while protecting my son's rights, as a father. She is well-versed in the laws and consistently communicated everything that was happening as it unfolded. You will not find another attorney that has such an affordable retainer with reasonable fees, that will work harder than Erin did. This is not a rotating law-firm, this is personal caring lawyer and I assure you, she is a rare gem. The level of commitment and care Erin gave to my son in his time of need brought him such great comfort and relief, we will forever be grateful.

So far I’ve already had two other attorneys representing me on this case and neither one did what they said they’d do. I gave one of them a $2500 retainer and she did absolutely nothing in the 4 months that I had her on my case, so you could see why I was very nervous about hiring another attorney, but I’d have to say that finding Erin Hardister McLean and Laura Vittletoe have been a god send. They’ve accomplished more in the one week since retaining them, then my last attorney did in 4 months. They are very reasonable on their fees as well. They’re hands down the best attorney’s out there. I’ve already referred them to one of my friends and will continue to do so..

Dina, met a very high standard in Availability, Attitude, and Ability. I call it three tools. Also feel free to use me for a recommendation as / from an out of town Dad who was looking for trusted counsel for a loved one in a legal bind due to driving offenses with related parole violation.

Dina worked with my wife and I when an unfortunate incident occurred and we had some outstanding traffic violations for toll roads. Mrs. Sheridan gave me a fair quote and did not charge anything additional to the wage we agreed upon. She was professional throughout the entire process and kept us both informed as things progressed. Having a great deal of experience working with attorneys both professionally and personally, it is definitely refreshing to be able to reach and receive timely responses from hired council. I would highly recommend Dina Busciglio Sheridan for any traffic offense cases.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tampa, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
