I would recommend Frank Papa for your legal needs. I had filed my chapter 13 bankruptcy with him and once I had completed my bankruptcy my mortgage company tried to add some pre-bankruptcy fees to my account. I tried to handle it myself but was not getting anywhere with the company. I contacted Frank who handled my case and he went right to work settling this matter. He showed compassion, understanding and most of concerned I was going through this. He is very knowledgeable of the laws and fought for me the “little guy” to resolve this issue. I personally appreciate and I’m very thankful for all he did for me. Again I would recommend him highly.

Frank was assigned to me for my bankruptcy. BEST thing that’s happened to me in a long time! Frank is an AWESOME attorney who knows his business! You can, without doubt, rely on him for his experience, his knowledge and his innate smarts! But he’s so MUCH MORE than that - he has been an exceptionally caring and supportive person and all-around wonderful in guiding me through my personal ordeal these last two years. In addition to these superlatives, Frank has been correct in all the decisions and choices he has guided me through! I recently told him that “he walks in water” and I truly do not know what I would have done without Frank’s help, guidance, support and genuine concern for me during this process. I can’t say enough good things about Frank and highly recommend him!

Although represented by Robert M. Geller, clients understand that they may have another attorney attend their 341 Bankruptcy hearing. So it was our good fortune that Attorney Frank Papa attended our 341 hearing. This happened during COVID-19 when the courts were closed and business was only conducted using ZOOM, technology that we had never used before. A 341 hearing can be a bit scary because you don't want to say or do anything wrong. Frank Papa talked us through it. However, it was during the ZOOM that we were asked if we had used a Debt Relief Company before filing our bankruptcy and we had, but we made it clear that we were very dissatisfied with that company. We just wanted to forget we ever did business with them. We didn't get off the hook so easily because we received advice to go forward. If not for Frank Papa being in attendance for our 341, we would never have known what was entailed being a consumer advocate attorney. Our bankruptcy was handled perfectly with no glitches. After consulting Frank Papa about the Debt Relief Company, we decided to go forward using Frank's advice because it was clear even before we contacted the Geller firm that the Debt Relief Company took advantage of us when they knew the huge amount of debt we had was way out of their league. But the main bone of contention was they charged settlement fees that were as high if not higher than the debt the negotiated settlement for. With his consumer advocate hat on, Frank Papa explained how he would go up against the Debt Relief Company for us. Although it helps to keep copious files and notes, not everyone does. But we did, and it was a good thing because the Debt Relief Company couldn't deny anything in our files. The consumer advocacy case was settled favorably, within a very short period of time, with no cost to us. Over the course of a few phone calls, we became fast friends with Frank Papa. We recommend Frank Papa for your bankruptcy needs and debt relief problems. If you feel you were taken advantage of by any Debt Relief Company, Frank Papa is the man to have in your corner.

This is the second time I have had to file bankruptcy because of illness and poor money management. The first time was in San Francisco with an attorney who was gruff and treated me like an idiot when I had questions or concerns. Thankfully, Frank Papa made the second journey through bankruptcy easy and, dare I say, “fun”! LOL. He is professional, kind, understanding and helpful on so many levels. He cared about me as a client and valued me as an individual who needed assistance and guidance. And he does it all with a wonderfully wicked sense of humor. As much as he brought me peace of mind on a financial level, he put me at ease, made me laugh, and shared his experience managing money. In a nutshell, he made the bankruptcy process painless and educational so that I will be on a different financial path in the future. Thank you so much, Frank!

Dina, met a very high standard in Availability, Attitude, and Ability. I call it three tools. Also feel free to use me for a recommendation as / from an out of town Dad who was looking for trusted counsel for a loved one in a legal bind due to driving offenses with related parole violation.

Dina worked with my wife and I when an unfortunate incident occurred and we had some outstanding traffic violations for toll roads. Mrs. Sheridan gave me a fair quote and did not charge anything additional to the wage we agreed upon. She was professional throughout the entire process and kept us both informed as things progressed. Having a great deal of experience working with attorneys both professionally and personally, it is definitely refreshing to be able to reach and receive timely responses from hired council. I would highly recommend Dina Busciglio Sheridan for any traffic offense cases.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tampa, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
