Kelli Mitchell is an outstanding attorney! She by far exceeded my every expectation, both as a masterful attorney and as an epic human being. Having her by my side through my divorce process changed my life completely. I was pretty worn down when I found Kelli. For financial reasons, I had been trying to represent myself for about 6 months in a very complex military divorce situation, and I was in jeopardy of losing everything. Luckily, I was able to get a loan from a friend and retain Kelli’s services. Kelli’s representation instantly provided safe shelter for me and my daughter from what felt like relentless and unjust attacks from opposing counsel. Not only did Kelli turn everything around legally, but she stepped in with a deep presence of compassionate witnessing that was immeasurably healing to my broken heart. She had an incredible understanding of what I had been through and what I was facing. Kelli and I worked together for over 2 years because of extenuating case circumstances and delays from Covid-19. In that time, Kelli was impeccable in her communication and representation. She dealt with what I felt was out-of-line behavior from opposing counsel with incredible integrity, patience, and fairness. Through many ups and downs, Kelli remained steady in faith and always delivered on her word. One thing I especially appreciate and another place where healing occurred for me was that when she provided solid guidance, she always trusted me to make the calls that felt aligned with my heart. She never took that power away from me and this increased my self-confidence by leaps and bounds. Kelli helped me rebuild my sense of trust and faith in myself, in life, and in humanity. I would never speak about divorce in the sense of winning anything, but Kelli helped me see that I could win my sense of self back and I think that speaks volumes about the person she is. My hope when hiring Kelli was that my daughter and I would make it through the divorce process. What I could never have imagined was that we would not only make it through but arrive to the other side healed and whole. I find myself in tears of gratitude as I write this. Kelli is a rare gem in the world of attorneys. She definitely has a unique magic, strength, wisdom, depth, compassion, generosity, and love of humanity about her that is awe-inspiring. I feel incredibly blessed to know her and recommend her with the highest regard to anyone seeking legal representation with healing as an added bonus.

Ms. Mitchell and her staff are nothing short of amazing. They are hard working, detailed oriented and out of the box thinkers which goes a long way in family law, especially when dealing with less than cooperative individuals on the other side. Ms. Mitchell strives to provide her clients with the best service and does so with such grace. You can’t go wrong hiring Ms. Mitchell to represent you, even in the most complicated case.

Unfortunately, this wasn't my first divorce. After having experience navigating divorce attorneys, I can promise you that you wont find anyone better. Extremely professional and organized. Aggressive, but sensitive. Her knowledge and understanding of different options made my process so smooth. I am thankful that she was on my side.

I was out of state for the vast majority of the duration of my case and Kelli always kept me informed and comfortable with what was going on in my case. She was very successful helping me settle and I would recommend her to any friend or family needing a professional yet fierce attorney that will get it done!

Dina, met a very high standard in Availability, Attitude, and Ability. I call it three tools. Also feel free to use me for a recommendation as / from an out of town Dad who was looking for trusted counsel for a loved one in a legal bind due to driving offenses with related parole violation.

Dina worked with my wife and I when an unfortunate incident occurred and we had some outstanding traffic violations for toll roads. Mrs. Sheridan gave me a fair quote and did not charge anything additional to the wage we agreed upon. She was professional throughout the entire process and kept us both informed as things progressed. Having a great deal of experience working with attorneys both professionally and personally, it is definitely refreshing to be able to reach and receive timely responses from hired council. I would highly recommend Dina Busciglio Sheridan for any traffic offense cases.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tampa, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
