DO NOT RETAIN SHAZIA SPARKMAN OR SPARKMAN LAW TO REPRESENT YOU! I retained her on very short notice without doing my research AND BOY DID I PAY FOR IT. Her office is understaffed and her Legal Assistants turned over 3 times in less than a year. NEVER PRODUCED AN INVOICE, BUT ALWAYS ASKING FOR MORE MONEY. She was late to every meeting, in person or ZOOM. Her office filed incorrect Financial Affd. with the court, in short, I FIRED HER. My new Attorney has requested over and over for her office to release all of my information to no avail. Even the opposing attorney was disgusted with her lack of response and I am having to produce again. If I had the multitude of errors coming out of my office that she had come out of hers, I would be out of business. Only now am I seeing all the bad reviews about this law firm...hind site is 20/20...stay clear of this firm.

My case had been on hold way too long and after hiring Ms. Sparkman for her expertise and urgency, I then waited 6 months with minimal communication from her or her firm and nothing filed. I decided to part ways extremely discouraged and having spent outrageous precious resources.

Shazia is compassionate, she truly cares about her clients. She is intelligent & professional. She is amazing we couldn’t have found a better attorney. After the bad experience with the last attorney she has definitely done a total turn around. Shazia is so great at what she does, she is aggressive when needed, she stands up for what’s right, and she will not allow others to abuse the system and get away with things that are not right. We have an alienation case and she truly knows how to deal with this, not many attorneys do. Don’t be scared to hire her because she is truly the best thing that’s happened in this high conflict custody situation. Thank you Shazia for your transparency and giving your all into this case!!!

Shazia’s tenacity and knowledge are an asset. I am the type of person that likes to do my own research and have excellent resources in a lot of different fields. However, I am open to listen opposing view if they have a valid stance or point. She took my case that has been handled through two attorneys and three firms, hers being the last. An issue with a GAL and got that tossed on a technicality with a passing comment that didn’t even get questioned twice. That was my biggest fear. Shazia has proven that if I feel something does not make sense, her advise it logical and valid even when I am nervous. If you listen to her, it makes sense and at the end of the day, they make sense. Your Counsel is here to help you and not to attack you. They are as much invested as you are. Shazia has proven time and time again that every little piece of advice has a reason with an end result that she is set to due. She plays the long game versus short results that may only be temporary and possibly end up hurting you even more. I look forward to what’s best in the end.

Ms. Sparkman has done an impeccable job in handling my long winded case and after 2 lawyers before her, I wished I had hired her from the beginning. She is intelligent, passionate and direct and honest about results. It is obvious when she walks into court her command of the law and it appears she is well respected by the Court. She is always, always accessible, respond to emails and texts into the middle of the night and rather than feeling as if I was just another client, she treated my case as if it were happening to her. Lawyers like Ms. Sparkman are a rare breed. Thank you for the peace of mind and for standing up for me. I recommend her to anyone needing counsel.

Dina, met a very high standard in Availability, Attitude, and Ability. I call it three tools. Also feel free to use me for a recommendation as / from an out of town Dad who was looking for trusted counsel for a loved one in a legal bind due to driving offenses with related parole violation.

Dina worked with my wife and I when an unfortunate incident occurred and we had some outstanding traffic violations for toll roads. Mrs. Sheridan gave me a fair quote and did not charge anything additional to the wage we agreed upon. She was professional throughout the entire process and kept us both informed as things progressed. Having a great deal of experience working with attorneys both professionally and personally, it is definitely refreshing to be able to reach and receive timely responses from hired council. I would highly recommend Dina Busciglio Sheridan for any traffic offense cases.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tampa, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
