Had him take over a case from a shyster lawyer who was hustling us for months stalling on settlement and running up fees. Keith was knowledgeable firm and honest in his dealings, and we soon mediated and signed a settlement within a month. It was not an ideal resolution financially but considering the options it was the right move. I wish I had hired him from the start, the case would have had a better outcome and ended much sooner. His billing was fair and he did not overcharge as many others do.

Keith Grumer treated our case as if he were protecting a family member and always behaved in an extremely professional manner. We were always kept well informed of every detail of our case and Keith made sure we understood what he was doing and why. Our calls were always promptly returned and no question ever went unanswered. He acted fast when time was a factor and gave us peace of mind to live our daily lives without fear of our opponent. Our overall experience of being clients of Mr. Grumer for over four years has been very pleasant under unfortunate circumstances and we would most defiantly recommend Keith to anyone in need of a well versed and highly intelligent litigation attorney.

From the first phone conversation with Lori, to the first time meeting with David and Jeff, all the way through and to the conclusion of my case, I felt as if these people truly cared about what happened to me. They didn’t just see a potential “case”. They were upset with my situation. They wanted to help. Through the years that this whole process takes, I have gotten to know them a bit better, and they have gotten to know me. I now consider them less “my legal team”, and more a part of my extended family, whether they realize it, or like it, or not. I so appreciate their kindness, genuine compassion, and “got my back” attitude. I hope you are never in a situation to need these folks, but if you ever are, I highly recommend talking to them and seeing if it’s a right fit for all. I had the pleasure of working with Brett Kaplan to negotiate a severance agreement with my former employer. From our initial consultation to the final signing of the agreement, Brett was friendly, approachable, and always available to answer my questions. His negotiation skills and knowledge of employment law resulted in a significantly better severance package than I was originally offered. I'm grateful for his guidance and advocacy during a challenging time. Thank you, Brett!

I reached out to Attorney Kaplan when I needed my severance package to be negotiated. He’s very detailed and was willing to take on the case. Meticulous in his approach and had all angles covered. Negotiated with my employer’s lawyers and was able to get a favorable settlement at the end of it. Will recommend!

Arlene & Gary Lazarus have been the best attorneys I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They are always available 24/7 with answers to any of my questions or concerns. I have been working with them for over 10 years and they have always gotten me the maximum amount for everyone of my lawsuits! There’s a reason I have stuck with them so long and have referred several Of my own clients their way as well. Their staff is always helpful and friendly and when it comes to something as serious as an accident and injuries you only want the best on your case.

Mr. Gary Lazarus represented me for a personal injury I sustained. Throughout the process he was professional, kind and respectful of both myself and my husband. Mr. Lazarus was able to thoroughly explain the laws and procedures that applied to my situation. He always made me feel I was a priority and any calls to either him, his partner Arlene Lazarus, or office staff were promptly returned. Everyone was helpful and courteous. I would recommend both Gary Lazarus and Arlene Lazarus to anyone seeking legal advice.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Weston, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
