Having Donald Lykkebaks representation was a huge relief. He was always attentive to any question I asked him, and easy to talk to. He has always left me with the feeling that every effort possible was made when handling my legal matter. I would refer Mr. Lykkebaks expertise to anyone in need and he will be my first thought if I ever need legal representation again.

When you look for a great product, typically you look for a specialist in that product, and within that industry, you look for the best provider of the product. Mr. Donald Lykkebak is one of these individuals your look for when in need of criminal defense. He is a "Superstar" in this industry, and a champion for his clients. I was fortunate to have been recommended to him by another attorney acquaintance. She told me, "If I was looking for representation for myself, based on the charges you have, I would look for the best possible attorney available, and that would be Donald Lykkebak. He has over 30 yrs experience, has a great reputation, and is highly respected by the prosecution, judges, and attorneys." I was and am a client of Mr. Lykkebak. I say was and am, because even after my case was resolved, I still communicate with him, and he is always there to answer questions and provide any support. If you have been in any legal situation previously, you understand that there are always lose ends to tie up, and Mr. Lykkebak is always there, every time. He is very resourceful with all aspects and needs of his clients. I had the experience of walking into a courtroom and having all of the other attorneys sit up straight and acknowledge Mr. Lykkebak as we entered. I have to say, this was very comforting given the situation. At that moment, I was reaffirmed, that I was in good hands. One of the attorneys even asked where the cameras were, referring to Mr. Lykkebak's recent appearance on TV regarding a high profile case. Even the judge acknowledged Mr. Lykkebak. Regarding his reputation I can provide this example of my experience. We were able to present historical information and facts regarding a situation between the probation office and outsourced vendor, that outlined impropriety, and Mr. Lykkebak was successful in having the judge review the facts and take corrective action in our favor, without hesitation. This only happens when the judge knows the track record well enough to know that Mr. Lykkebak is presenting a valid complaint, and one that he will likely win. He has the ability to present arguments in a way that are very effective with the prosecution. They listen objectively to Mr. Lykkebak and always work with him to find a just resolution. Moreover, Mr. Lykkebak is plainly a good and decent man who makes you feel comfortable through every step of the process. I really don't know what else to say other than thank you very much Mr. Lykkebak, I am very satisfied with your representation. You are an amazing attorney and friend. Cordially, Your respectful client.

Got everything I needed done and more. Had a case declared as criminal when it should have been civil - only 15 minutes in court and he had it knocked down with only a $100 court fine. Worked with our situation to accommodate us in ways he didn’t have to.

In all, two very difficult cases. Mister Fetter was not only honest, forthright, realistic but also heartfelt. These qualities rarely found in an attorney. He truly does care and he knows his S$&@t. How he made magic happen is beyond me but if you need someone who does truly work with you both financially and in the court room I can honestly say you CANNOT GET ANY BETTER MAN. Thank you Bryce and staff for your diligence, your kindness, your willingness to work with me and assist me at a time in my life when things just were not right. Thank you and God bless you all.

Mr. Fetter was consulted by myself to assist with a case against my son. The transparency of his service and expectations one would expect was spot on. The communication from beginning to completion was amazing. I never had to chase anything or ask what’s going on. At times when I got overwhelmed and called the office I was always reassured. This amazing Law firm managed to get a potential 15yr sentence down to all charges dropped!! If you haven’t consulted or hired Bruce Fetter, you have already lost!

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Winter Park, Florida?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
