Ed Hecht is by far the most passionate person I have ever met. He is very smart and knows his clients needs thoroughly. He will fight for you at your weakest moments. He is a unicorn of attorneys in this area. Do NOT go to others until you speak with him first. I’m not just saying that- I’ve been to a few firms that will take your $ and not speak with you. Ed and Bryson will make the process EASY so you don’t have to update handwritten forms like the other attorneys in the area. These individuals wear a vest of empathy but they are bulldogs at the end of the day for you to get what you deserve!!!!!!!!

I was in the process of negotiating an uncontested divorce (outside of court) with my ex-spouse, when I was surprised by a court summons I received in the mail. My ex and her attorney filed a contested divorce case in the middle of negotiated an uncontested settlement! The attorney that was helping me prepare the uncontested divorce documents referred me to a list of trial attorneys, including Ed and team. I happened to interviewed two other trail attorneys first, but I decided to go with Ed after our first conversation. Ed really understood my situation. Not only is he an experienced divorce attorney, but he also went through a difficult divorce himself. He helped me to put my situation into perspective and helped me to focus on the most important aspect, which was my children. I worked with Ed and Bryson for 15 months. There were lots of court delays due to COVID in addition to my ex and I not coming to terms quickly. During the intake meeting (our first meeting to discuss the case), Bryson walked me through what the divorce process would most likely look like. He explained all of the steps we will go through and all of the opportunities to come to a settlement before we actually go to trial. He explained why people go through each step and what is most likely to happen for me based on my situation. Looking back, we ended up going through that exact process he laid out; and settling 2 weeks before the court date which he expected based on how far apart my ex and I were. We attended Zoom court hearings, in person mediation, and late case evaluation; in addition to many phone calls discussing all the complex aspects of my case. One of the first accomplishments we had was establishing a temporary custody schedule with my kids. This is something that would never have happened without Ed and Bryson's help. I was having difficulty getting any type of regular schedule established with my ex. They were able to get my ex to agree to a fair schedule, which included half of the Christmas break just a few weeks before Christmas break. This is even prior to the first 30 day status conference with the judge. Over the course of the 15 months of negotiation, we were able to establish that I would have my kids 5 days out of every 14 days. This was after starting with only having them every other Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Bryson was great to work with. He is an experienced and knowledgable attorney; and he had longstanding relationships with many mediators, judges and other people involved in the Fulton County family court system. He was able to anticipate many people's perspectives, which went a long way with negotations. He is also an expert in family law with many years of experience. I recall one impressive moment during our late case evaluation. The late case evaluator was a former judge who is obviously an expert in family law himself. Bryson and the Judge were discussing some esoteric detqils of child support calculations as part of negotiating our position, when the former judge replied "Oh really? I didn't know that." Bryson referenced where the detail was explained and the former judge said "Wow, I've been doing this for 30 years and I never knew that. I still learn something new everyday." The settlement agreement turned out to be extremely valuable. I have already cut and pasted from it numerous time in communications with my ex, when she decides rules don't apply to her. It has ended a few arguments before they even started. Even post divorce, Ed's advice is valuable and has helped me avoid problems as well as giving me a better understanding of legal options when my ex isn't following our settlement agreement.

Bryan assisted me with a child custody case that recently ended. Although it was a long, drawn out affair, and the odds were stacked against us, he never stopped trying to get me closer to my goal. He is very knowledgable and above all treats you like a human being. After seeing the opposing counsel and their obvious desire to use their client as only a revenue stream, I really appreciated Bryan's transparency and honesty when outlining next steps, options, and most of all costs. You will be in good hands with Bryan!

David E Oles is by far the most effective attorney that I have seen in action in the dealing of child custody. He worked tremendously well (using his Harvard education) enhancing my local counsel in Colorado with his excellent leadership helping the productivity of the time spent in the local court. I have been through a highly litigated divorce/battle for over 7 years as the result of trying to exercise my minimal court ordered time with my children against horrible opposition. I have never felt the court has completely heard my side or ruled in any way to assist me with this until now. My children have been severely alienated and were used as weapons by their mother. It has been her goal to undermine, brainwash, lie, and do everything in her power to try and stop me from my weekend visitation with my children. She has used the school, church, friends, public court system, child protective services, restraining orders and numerous false police reports in attempt to achieve this and was very close to getting this done. Through the past three years I was reported to child protected services 9 times unfounded. These reports were carried out by a violence advocacy group counselor 6 times, 3 times by the mother and her friend’s. Previous court orders have only empowered the mother of my children to do this. When David entered my case in May of 2012 my oldest son was refusing to see me and the younger two were in the process of doing the same. From that time to date there were emergency motions to stop my vacation time with the children twice, once from the mother and once from a biased anti dad child legal representative. All denied by a very wise magistrate. This would have never happened if David Oles didn't intervene with motions and repeals to protect my parenting time. In the final hearing there was contempt along with a motion to modify. David Oles went against 3 female attorneys (2 that specialize in high conflict custody from Denver) and a CLR (who was extremely biased against me) all with the goal to diminishing my time with the children to supervised parenting time and tripling my child support. They combined had twice the court time that we did. Under severe time constraints David got all the important evidence that the magistrate needed to hear and crossed every important point leaving the mother the liar that she is, exposing the un-ethical counselor for what she was and discrediting all of their witnesses. The opposing party had us two to one and left with their heads hanging and the truth prevailed which is not easy in this kind of case. Thanks to David working with and leading local counsel, my parenting time is significantly increased and the following has been ordered to happen. The court has found alienation to exist by the mother (doesn’t happen often in my county). My child support didn’t change in fact went down a little. We won a sanctions/contempt with double the make-up time and attorney’s fees. The un-ethical counselor was rejected by the court (no longer aloud to see the children and found to be coaching the children practicing dual relationships) with enough evidence to go after her legally if necessary. The mother is required to get therapy with the threat of custody change if she continues this behavior. I feel that David E Oles is not just an attorney. He is an attorney that truly has found his niche or calling in life. He commands a presence against all odds in stubborn courts that have a hard time with doing things out of the norm of what “local society likes” and sees as correct. Man or women I would recommend him to either, my one regret is that I didn’t find him sooner.

Words alone cannot express just how great David Oles and his staff have been. A family member recommended I speak with him based on other professional recommendations. I have found his firm to surpass every expectation of service, professionalism, experience, knowledge, and attentiveness. He also has outstanding court room presence and is an amazing litigator. He has always been expertly prepared and has never failed to deliver less than exceptional performance. Due to an exceptionally violent and litigious ex-spouse with multiple personality disorders, the past decade has required me to be in court an unfathomable number of times. This has placed me in the unfortunate position of being able to offer a very informed opinion. While most of the attorneys I have worked with are very good and dedicated to their cases, David stands out as a true expert in comparison. He is a recognized expert by his peers, and that alone is worth its weight in gold. He has never failed to provide guidance when needed, and that is absolutely critical when the stakes are the safety and well being of your children. His staff is the best I've ever seen, hands down. David has not been just an attorney, but a true advocate for my family. I hope no one ever experiences the difficulties that we have, but should you find yourself in need of the very best, look no further than David Oles.

There is a reason Hartman Law is my preferred closing attorney and it’s NOT entirely about the candy cart (although that certainly elevates the fun). Andy and his team are superb: professional, competent, and kind are just a few qualities that come to mind. I have brought them a number of complicated title issues, all of which they’ve been able to adeptly resolve for my clients. They also use a secure communication portal which enables all parties to stay updated on the details of the transaction - super helpful from the agent side because I can reach out day or night and know that the message will receive the attention it needs. Their offices are welcoming and comfortable in a business casual way that puts everyone at ease. It is totally possible to have fun at the closing table with Andy and his team handling the entire process. And of course - the candy cart and kid friendly office details help! Even my pup approves!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Alpharetta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
