When I first met with Lauren and Esther they seemed sympathetic to the contentious divorce I was experiencing. One month after taking on my case, we had our first court appearance. Lauren failed to make sure proper motions were filed. The judge refused to hear us and sent us on our way. Despite the mistake, Lauren billed for a day in court. When my soon-to-be ex-husband didn’t turn over many of his documents, Lauren failed to issue letters notifying the court. In the end, I had to remind her multiple times of the missing documents. Because of her failure to issue the notices, it took 5 months before many of the documents were received. When the proceedings moved to arbitration, Lauren assured me that we had enough evidence and witnesses to prove his abusive behavior. The problem is that Lauren did not present much of the evidence and didn’t call many key witnesses. In addition, when it came time to cross-examine my ex, she did not have a list of questions prepared. There were long pauses sometimes more than a minute while Lauren fumbled through notes trying to formulate questions on the spot. It was a disaster. Things went so bad that the judge closed by saying he thought my husband was a good person and that we just didn’t get along. There were also several questionable charges in my bill. In one instance I was charged 5 hours ($2,000) by Esther to review a transcript. When my documents were returned to me, I found the transcript could not have been reviewed as it was still sealed in its original envelope. This also meant that she had not prepared for arbitration which was reflected in the outcome. Esther also billed for two days in court when she did absolutely nothing. She said nothing and did nothing, and then billed me more than $5k. When notified of the fee dispute, they swiped my credit card without my permission. In the end, my legal fees were more than double my ex’s. There should not be that kind of disparity in the same divorce unless one of the attorneys is padding their bills.

This review is specifically about Lauren Ducharme and nothing to do with the firm itself, except to the degree of the integrity of the people working there. My divorce was extremely complex, involving multiple lawyers and endless, bewildering twists and turns. This lead to nonstop frustration and heartbreak for my family that was completely out of Lauren’s control. She always gave me sound advice (most of which I ignored). I respected her advice but could not wait for the most desirable outcome to occur. Instead of criticizing my decisions, she listened to my concerns and shifted her perspective to see from mine. She worked diligently towards achieving my goals. She remained professional and moral in spite of a barrage of insults thrown from opposing counsel. Most importantly, she cared. She cared, when no one else did. It was a very long, bumpy road but I got what mattered the most to me. I will be forever grateful that she was an integral part of accomplishing an almost impossible goal. And of course, I highly recommend her.

Very unprofessional. Never tried to find the real truth. Called me and my kids liars. She never bothers to call the witnesses. All she cared about was to get as many hours possible so she could make more money. I will never recommend her to anyone.

My dad passed away and did not leave a will. Esther helped my family get through this very difficult time by handling all of the issues with the probate court, the creditors, and other items in his estate. Money well spent.
