If you contract this law firm make sure you understand the billing. We contracted for a contempt modfication case and had a 5000 dollar retainer. Every month they made sure they used all the money . Our attorney left and we were assigned new attorney. Mind you we had already paid almost 10 grand. I stared questioning invoices.and all the sudden they went outside our signed contract and asked for an additional 10 grand. No way. Never heard from patners, but ML the billingmanager/office manager is very rude and condescending. She is not truthful with the billing she told us several non truths. I have nothing bad to say about Katherine,Lisa, or Beth they were great, but beware of the billing and the ML. Please make sure you read your contract and make sure you understand the billing. Most of all don't question You invoices or what you are told. The billing/ office Manager will tell you what you want to hear and tell untruths. This law firm is Not for working people. It is only for the rich. Just beware, do your research.

There are no words that can truly capture how grateful I am for Emily and the incredible team at Hastings Shadmehry. Emily wasn’t just my attorney; she was my champion, my voice when I felt silenced, and my guide through one of the most difficult and repeated battles I’ve had to face. From the very first call, I knew I was in the hands of someone who cared deeply—not just about my case but about me and my child. Emily listened to every detail, validated my feelings, and assured me that we would fight for what was right. She was a calming presence when I was overwhelmed…truly an earthly angel! I also want to highlight her amazing paralegal, Jessica, who was nothing short of a rockstar! Jessica was always a step ahead, making sure every detail was handled perfectly. Whether it was organizing crucial documents, or simply being a listening ear in moments of frustration, she truly went above and beyond. Emily and Jessica made the perfect team…they left no stone unturned and made me feel like my case was their top priority. The team at Hastings Shadmehry is something truly special. These ladies are not just skilled professionals—they are kind, compassionate, and deeply invested in their clients...and FIERCE! Not only did I experience the genuine care the entire firm had for me and my family, but I got to witness the camaraderie and support that they have for each other. This journey wasn’t easy—it was emotional, exhausting, and at times, overwhelming. But Emily, Jessica, and the entire team at Hastings Shadmehry never wavered. They were my rocks when I needed strength and my advocates when I felt powerless. Emily became family to me! She didn’t just represent me; she fought for my family’s future with a passion that felt deeply personal. Because of her, my child continues to have the security, love, and stability she deserves. And for me, there is no greater gift.

Finding the right legal support during times of family uncertainty can feel overwhelming, but working with Emily and her team at Hastings Shadmehry has been nothing short of exceptional. I truly couldn’t have asked for more assistance, reassurance, or expertise. Emily, along with Kendall and Jessica, demonstrated not only immense skill in their field but also genuine compassion for my situation. Their ability to navigate complex issues with confidence and clarity made an incredibly difficult time much easier to manage. I’ve worked with Emily before at her previous firm, and there’s a reason I chose to follow her to Hastings Shadmehry. Her dedication to her clients is unwavering, and she continues to set a high standard for legal representation. The entire staff at Hastings Shadmehry exudes professionalism, kindness, and a deep commitment to their clients. They are incredibly knowledgeable and always responsive to my questions and concerns. Every interaction I’ve had with the firm has left me feeling supported and reassured. It’s true what they say: you get what you pay for. The expertise and care provided by Emily and her team are worth every penny. If you’re looking for a legal team that combines skill, compassion, and reliability, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Emily and the entire Hastings Shadmehry team. They have been an invaluable resource during one of the most challenging periods of my life, and I’m grateful to have had them by my side.

The team at the C&B Alpharetta office is just THE BEST! It starts the moment you walk into the beautiful entry stocked with all kinds of snacks and treats. The receptionist is warm, friendly and so helpful. The office is comfortable from the decor to the temperature. The attorneys are all great at explaining things to my clients and guiding them through the process. The whole experience is a 10 out of 10!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Alpharetta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
