I was facing an incredibly stressful and life-altering situation after being falsely accused of a felony for criminal trespass, despite not having trespassed at all. From the very first consultation, Joe Habachy stood out as a beacon of hope. He was confident, professional, and reassured me that we could get the case dismissed. His confidence was not just words—he delivered. Throughout the entire process, Joe kept me thoroughly informed, explaining each step and making sure I understood all the legal jargon that came my way. He was always available to answer my questions, no matter how small or how often they came up. His dedication to my case was evident; he worked tirelessly to ensure that justice was served. When the day finally came, Joe secured the dismissal of all charges against me. The relief I felt was indescribable. Joe not only defended my innocence but also restored my peace of mind. If you need a criminal defense attorney who is not only skilled and knowledgeable but also deeply committed to their clients, I cannot recommend Joe Habachy highly enough.

Weeks before graduation, our daughter—a high school senior, scholar-athlete, and honor roll student—and her friends were arrested for a senior prank that went wrong. They accidentally targeted the wrong house with toilet paper and chalk, leading the homeowner to falsely allege exaggerated charges and damages, which triggered a full police response. This resulted in felony criminal damage charges in a county known for severe penalties on minor offenses. Facing the potential of not being able to walk at graduation and significant disruption to her college plans at a top university due to a lengthy court process, we (along with several of the other families) turned to Joe Habachy. He acted swiftly, working with the district attorney to expedite the process and resolve the case with a dismissal of all charges and an expungement of our daughter's record.

I made some pretty bad life choices and ended up with two DUIs. Joe was recommended to me by a friend, and he did a phenomenal job. He's a straight-shooter, and helped me understand all the details and possibilities that may be the outcome. He negotiated my case in such a way that the court was lenient on me and I've been able to work through all the details of probation, etc. remotely. Joe is very communicative, and responds to questions within a day (often within the hour). I'm fortunate to have not experienced the legal system directly prior to this case, but I appreciate Joe's candor and non-judgmental attitude. My court dates had to be rescheduled several times for various reasons, and Joe handled all of it without me needing to present in court. I 100% recommend him for your legal needs. Going to court is scary no matter how you slice it, but he made it as painless as it could possibly be, given the circumstances. And I went to court understanding precisely what to expect so there were no surprises. I'm grateful for his expertise. As an aside, DON'T drink and drive. Like ever. It's not worth it in any way.

I was charged with serious injury by vehicle (a felony in Georgia with a minimum prison sentence), unlawful fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle, and DUI. By all accounts, I should be in a prison cell right now instead of being at home, laughing and smiling with my family. Faced with a possible prison term of 10+ years, Mr. Habachy’s outstanding representation resulted in an outcome that included: No prison time An immediately sealed record No excessive post-judgment requirements or constraints Quite frankly, he helped me get my life back. Over the course of the three-year case, his exceptional communication was unwavering. When I say exceptional, I mean he returned my calls and emails whether he was at a wedding, funeral, or even in the middle of the ocean or on top of a volcano—I'm sure you get my point. He is as close to a perfect attorney as you’ll ever find, and I am forever grateful to him. P.S. All former and current clients of his that I know speak about him with a certain reverence. This is not for nothing—he’s that guy. The man was born to do this

I can only be more than grateful to Mr. Joe. I had a DUI with a suspended license, my case was very complicated to resolve, everything was against me, and in less than 6 months we managed to obtain the best results of all, no DUI, no suspended license. The attention is personalized, they answer the phone and emails immediately, and for those who do not speak English, they have an assistant who can help them with the translation. I recommend him with my eyes closed. Thanks for the work done.

I showed up in court in a wheelchair back in early February of 2020. I had been going back and forth with the roofing company that put a lien on my home after they failed to uphold the commitments made in our contract. I suffered multiple strokes in those two years, and I could barely catch my breath long enough to argue my case effectively that day in court. While exiting the courtroom Attorney Gibson handed me her card and told me to give her a call. From the moment she handed me that card Attorney Gibson completely took over and handled the situation for me. I never had to lift a finger because she took care of it all. Today my matter is resolved and the lien is removed from my home. Thank you GLF!

Ms. Gibson has helped my client (a startup company) with several immigration issues in regards to securing visas for our employees. Ms. Gibson was always helpful, quick to respond, and did not mind explaining the nuances of immigration law. I will definitely use Ms. Gibson's services again.

Goes well beyond the normal duties provided by most attorneys. Provides counsel based on helping improve your business by finding a way to get the job done. Has a positiive attitude towards accomplishing the objective. Does not list all the reasons why you cannot do something. In addition to providing wise and sage counsel, he helps coach my small business. His 13 years of experience, including combat experience, as an officer in the Marine Corps provides a unique understanding of how to incorporate and integrate his advice into practice within my company, as opposed to just telling me what to do. That is, my people really look forward to hearing how he can help them and my business. For example, in order for my business to survive, the government dictated that we had to become self regulated by joining the old NASD. We did not even know what that meant. Every other attorney, and the NASD told us it was impossible for us to join. The fact that we did not trade securities, by definition, prohibited us from joining the National Association of Securities Dealers, a non governmental self regulated organization. Not only did he help us to become a member of the NASD, he held our hand through the entire process. He did everything from coaching our traders on the floor to sit beside us and fielded all questions in our interviews in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. He drafted and implemented all procedures required to accomplish the result. He even used his network to contact the chairman of the commission. We did not trade any

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Atlanta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
