Attorney Randall Kessler is one of those rare individuals who figured out early on what he wanted to do, and from that moment focused on being the best he could be. He not only practices the law, but he practices sensitivity, professionalism and an all-inclusive kindness that radiates his firm. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Kessler and his team as a client and have remained a friend. He is an outstanding litigator and court room representative as well a great listener and advocate which has taken him to the top of his professional ladder. His book, "Divorce: Protecting Yourself, Your Kids, and Your Future" is the quintessential, easy to read "what to expect" regarding every aspect of divorce; from beginning to end. I would advice anyone thinking of divorce to read it first. He and his team far exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend his firm for any legal matters involving you or your family! Alicia

Randy has the combination of skills to be extremely effective. He is able to see clearly the best legal path to take give a specific set of facts. More importantly, he has the unique ability to communicate the facts to opposing counsel or a judge in a concise way. The rule of five is a key component to his thought process.

I was a client of Randy Kessler's law firm and I found Randy and the lawyer(s) and support staff at his firm to be extremely experienced and knowledgeable in the area of family law. While I was living in Seattle, WA, I needed legal filings and support for litigation that crossed interstate lines into Georgia. These timely filings and strategy were important to establish rights between a parent / child. While no two child custody cases are exactly the same, I found Mr. Kessler to be caring and willing to follow several different paths to achieving a positive outcome. Don't be confused, just because you have a knowledgeable legal team does not mean you do not need to educate yourself about what you face as a parent but in the area of law and in the practice and procedures of legal filings, courtroom drama and negotiations, for me, it was best to find the most professional and experienced group.

He guided me the entire way in a way that was both collabrative and personal. At a time when I was afraid and lost Randy was my David who slew the Goliath in front of us. I recommend Randy without reserve or hesitation. He is investment in his clients is total and his guidance is impeccable.

I contacted Attorney Randy Kessler to get a confidential consultation regarding a significant prior divorce issue and prenuptial issue. Mr. Kessler exceeded all my expectations, particularly when compared with experiences I had with other lawyers I hired in the past. I'm not saying my prior lawyers were bad. They were competent, smart attorneys. Mr. Kessler, however, was clearly in another class altogether. He demonstrated top professionalism and expertise in identifying and thoroughly knowing the precise legal issues and specific factual issues that went to the heart of solving my problem both the with the past and present. It was uncanny how quickly he identified, assessed, and prioritized critical issues that the other lawyers only pointed out after significant time or they missed entirely. Mr. Kessler also demonstrated very human qualities of empathy and genuine respect for me and my situation/problems. Other lawyers in the past either lectured me, didn't actually "listen", or didn't timely respond to my questions or phone calls. Mr. Kessler was very responsive and get back to me quickly in each communication. Further, Mr. Kessler was genuine. Sincere. Smart, and very likable. I am lucky to have been referred to a lawyer who earned his role as a local and national leader in the divorce lawyer and family law community. I am still working with Mr. Kessler. I am extremely appreciative he is my attorney and advocate.

I showed up in court in a wheelchair back in early February of 2020. I had been going back and forth with the roofing company that put a lien on my home after they failed to uphold the commitments made in our contract. I suffered multiple strokes in those two years, and I could barely catch my breath long enough to argue my case effectively that day in court. While exiting the courtroom Attorney Gibson handed me her card and told me to give her a call. From the moment she handed me that card Attorney Gibson completely took over and handled the situation for me. I never had to lift a finger because she took care of it all. Today my matter is resolved and the lien is removed from my home. Thank you GLF!

Ms. Gibson has helped my client (a startup company) with several immigration issues in regards to securing visas for our employees. Ms. Gibson was always helpful, quick to respond, and did not mind explaining the nuances of immigration law. I will definitely use Ms. Gibson's services again.

Goes well beyond the normal duties provided by most attorneys. Provides counsel based on helping improve your business by finding a way to get the job done. Has a positiive attitude towards accomplishing the objective. Does not list all the reasons why you cannot do something. In addition to providing wise and sage counsel, he helps coach my small business. His 13 years of experience, including combat experience, as an officer in the Marine Corps provides a unique understanding of how to incorporate and integrate his advice into practice within my company, as opposed to just telling me what to do. That is, my people really look forward to hearing how he can help them and my business. For example, in order for my business to survive, the government dictated that we had to become self regulated by joining the old NASD. We did not even know what that meant. Every other attorney, and the NASD told us it was impossible for us to join. The fact that we did not trade securities, by definition, prohibited us from joining the National Association of Securities Dealers, a non governmental self regulated organization. Not only did he help us to become a member of the NASD, he held our hand through the entire process. He did everything from coaching our traders on the floor to sit beside us and fielded all questions in our interviews in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. He drafted and implemented all procedures required to accomplish the result. He even used his network to contact the chairman of the commission. We did not trade any

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Atlanta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
