I was arrested for a DUI in 2021 and was looking for legal representation. I sat with 2 separate attorneys before I met with Mr. Sullivan to go over my case and found very different opinions and options from them. One said that there was no way I could have the charge reduced, the second one said it was a possibility however he was not very professional as he lost my case files on numerous occasions during the time he was reviewing my case. After much hesitation in hiring these attorneys, I went online and looked up another option and found Mr. Sullivan. I am beyond glad and grateful that I hired Mr. Sullivan, he is extremely professional, courteous, and took an interest in my case to find the best options possible, unlike the two prior attorneys. He was honest and communicative during the whole process. His paralegal is also very professional and helpful. Mr. Sullivan reviewed my case and was very open and honest about the possibilities. What separated him from the rest however was the fact that he took a genuine interest in my case, provided thorough information on the charges, the possible outcomes, and guidance to ensure that I was in compliance with the courts prior to my court date. Every time I reached out to his office there was no wait time to hear back and the responses were clear and concise. We finally appeared on the court date and in no time Mr. Sullivan was able to get my charge reduced from DUI to reckless driving which I was told by the prior two attorneys that 1. it was highly probable that it won't happen. 2. maybe but not very promising. Mr. Sullivan is an EXCELLENT law professional and has my highest recommendation for anyone who is seeking legal representation in these matters.

I was unfortunately charged with a DUI while sleeping in a private parking lot in my car back in 2010 in Walton County. James Sullivan as my attorney was excellent and was able to get my charge reduced to a non-DUI reckless-driving offense. I highly recommend his services for anyone facing this type of situation.

I highly recommend James Sullivan. Unlike other attorneys, he was very kind answering all the questions I had. He was available to talk when I had questions and answered the phone calls/email in time. He did a great job dismissing the minor in possession case. The judge knew him and he was very familiar with court clerks. Very helpful.

With great skill, knowledge, confidence and the utmost integrity, Mr. Sullivan was able to help me navigate a very stressful and difficult time. He worked diligently to defend my DUI case and ultimately he was able to reach the best possible resolution. Mr. Sullivan was attentive, accessible, patient and reassuring throughout the entire process. Mr. Sullivan not only has a great understanding of the law, he also understands the local legal environment and Atlanta’s judicial system. The day after my arrest I contacted Mr. Sullivan and he worked with me over the next two years, eager to answer my questions, explain my defense strategy and prove my innocence. I highly recommend Mr. Sullivan, he is a very capable attorney who fights for, and believes in his clients.

I contacted Mr. Sullivan (Skip) the day after my DUI arrest. From the first conversation Skip was informative and understanding with my situation. All communication throughout the process was handled professionally and in a timely manner. He moved the case from Roswell to the Fulton County Courthouse as he felt it was our best shot at receiving an acquittal. I had several miscues on my DUI video that could have potentially resulted in a conviction. (I messed up the alphabet - badly, that was just one issue on my video there were others). I thought for sure this would result in a guilty verdict, who wouldn't? Skip was a superstar in court and was able to focus on enough "positives" contained in the video to come away with a not guilty verdict on both the DUI charge and the failure to maintain lane. I would highly recommend Mr. Sullivan for DUI defense. He understands the process, the laws and also has knowledge about the local prosecutors, judges and police officers as well. Do yourself a favor and call Skip!

I showed up in court in a wheelchair back in early February of 2020. I had been going back and forth with the roofing company that put a lien on my home after they failed to uphold the commitments made in our contract. I suffered multiple strokes in those two years, and I could barely catch my breath long enough to argue my case effectively that day in court. While exiting the courtroom Attorney Gibson handed me her card and told me to give her a call. From the moment she handed me that card Attorney Gibson completely took over and handled the situation for me. I never had to lift a finger because she took care of it all. Today my matter is resolved and the lien is removed from my home. Thank you GLF!

Ms. Gibson has helped my client (a startup company) with several immigration issues in regards to securing visas for our employees. Ms. Gibson was always helpful, quick to respond, and did not mind explaining the nuances of immigration law. I will definitely use Ms. Gibson's services again.

Goes well beyond the normal duties provided by most attorneys. Provides counsel based on helping improve your business by finding a way to get the job done. Has a positiive attitude towards accomplishing the objective. Does not list all the reasons why you cannot do something. In addition to providing wise and sage counsel, he helps coach my small business. His 13 years of experience, including combat experience, as an officer in the Marine Corps provides a unique understanding of how to incorporate and integrate his advice into practice within my company, as opposed to just telling me what to do. That is, my people really look forward to hearing how he can help them and my business. For example, in order for my business to survive, the government dictated that we had to become self regulated by joining the old NASD. We did not even know what that meant. Every other attorney, and the NASD told us it was impossible for us to join. The fact that we did not trade securities, by definition, prohibited us from joining the National Association of Securities Dealers, a non governmental self regulated organization. Not only did he help us to become a member of the NASD, he held our hand through the entire process. He did everything from coaching our traders on the floor to sit beside us and fielded all questions in our interviews in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. He drafted and implemented all procedures required to accomplish the result. He even used his network to contact the chairman of the commission. We did not trade any

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Atlanta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
