Pros
1
Exceptional customer service and communication from the legal team
“My experience with this firm was amazing! I'd been injured in two other car accidents in my life and the paralegals who worked the cases were hard to reach and not very helpful. Also, it took almost two years for my previous cases to be settled so you can imagine my surprise when LaShanda called me and told me my offer from the insurance company was in after only 5 months?!”
2
Knowledgeable and experienced attorneys who fight hard for their clients
“Richard Kopelman is an amazing lawyer. He really dedicates himself to the case and the client. Both Anne and Richard make sure that you get all the help you need in a timely manner. They also provide follow-ups to make sure you are aware of the progress made.”
3
Personalized attention and care for the client's wellbeing
“From the moment I sought legal guidance from Richard Kopelman, I knew I had found not just an attorney, but a dedicated advocate for justice and care. Before even formally accepting my case concerning the neglect and malpractice my mother faced in a rehabilitation facility, Richard demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to investigating my claims thoroughly. His approach is both personal and professional, extending his support far beyond what one might expect, delving into the intricacies of the case with a fine-tooth comb and sparing no resource in the pursuit of truth.”
4
Efficient and timely case management
“They are very helpful and answer questions very quickly and thoroughly. I worked with Rebecca who was amazing and kept me up to date.”
5
Transparent and honest communication throughout the process
“Richard was always upfront and honest about the process.”
Cons
1
Lengthy and drawn-out case resolution process
“Took a long time to settle”
2
Potential increase in insurance premiums after case resolution
“Now my premium is sky high”

I am extremely pleased with the services that the Tom Nagel firm has offered me. Tom consistently communicated with me throughout the course of this case. (Post Covid, it was drawn out for much longer than it should have). I’m appreciative of the favourable outcome. Thank you, Tom.

I had my case handled by attorney Richard Kopelman and his paralegal, Anne and this office is amazing. Their goal is to do whats best for their clients. Mr. Kopelman is very caring, respectful, knowledgable and genuine. Living in Atlanta there are hundreds of law firms but not all law firms will make you feel at ease. Throughout the course of my case he continued to reassure me that my incident wasn't my fault and continued to ask about my well being. I am originally from a small town and this law office give you a small town feel. I felt like I was speaking with a neighbor or family friend and we could discuss any topic (i.e., Life, family, politics and well being). This office works for their clients and they care. I am so happy that they were willing to take my case. It was truly a blessing and my words will never be able to express the gratitude and appreciation for all the hard work and hours Mr. Kopelman and Anne put towards my case.

I showed up in court in a wheelchair back in early February of 2020. I had been going back and forth with the roofing company that put a lien on my home after they failed to uphold the commitments made in our contract. I suffered multiple strokes in those two years, and I could barely catch my breath long enough to argue my case effectively that day in court. While exiting the courtroom Attorney Gibson handed me her card and told me to give her a call. From the moment she handed me that card Attorney Gibson completely took over and handled the situation for me. I never had to lift a finger because she took care of it all. Today my matter is resolved and the lien is removed from my home. Thank you GLF!

Ms. Gibson has helped my client (a startup company) with several immigration issues in regards to securing visas for our employees. Ms. Gibson was always helpful, quick to respond, and did not mind explaining the nuances of immigration law. I will definitely use Ms. Gibson's services again.

Goes well beyond the normal duties provided by most attorneys. Provides counsel based on helping improve your business by finding a way to get the job done. Has a positiive attitude towards accomplishing the objective. Does not list all the reasons why you cannot do something. In addition to providing wise and sage counsel, he helps coach my small business. His 13 years of experience, including combat experience, as an officer in the Marine Corps provides a unique understanding of how to incorporate and integrate his advice into practice within my company, as opposed to just telling me what to do. That is, my people really look forward to hearing how he can help them and my business. For example, in order for my business to survive, the government dictated that we had to become self regulated by joining the old NASD. We did not even know what that meant. Every other attorney, and the NASD told us it was impossible for us to join. The fact that we did not trade securities, by definition, prohibited us from joining the National Association of Securities Dealers, a non governmental self regulated organization. Not only did he help us to become a member of the NASD, he held our hand through the entire process. He did everything from coaching our traders on the floor to sit beside us and fielded all questions in our interviews in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. He drafted and implemented all procedures required to accomplish the result. He even used his network to contact the chairman of the commission. We did not trade any

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Atlanta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
