“Charles's experience was well worth my investment with him. I could not have been more pleased with the final outcome.”
2
Aggressive and effective in divorce proceedings
“He is a honest, knowledgeable, caring lawyer who loves to win! In my case, opposing counsel wanted to fleece me and leave me for dead. When the gavel finally fell (on three different occasions) all judges ruled in favor of me.”
3
Provides personalized attention and goes above and beyond for clients

“Marilyn L. Bardie Kapaun was outstanding and prepared us well prior to all court appearances and won all filed actions. Caitlyn Lindsey-Hood was amazing to close out all our court actions and developed the final custody and visitation agreement.”

My divorce was not particularly complex but my wife hired a top-tier lawyer who has a reputation for shenanigans. I interviewed quite a few attorneys but only Charles had the experience and character to navigate dynamic legal challenges without resorting to dirty tactics. Charles established and maintained a firm and respectful strategy that was sound from the start. We not only settled more favorably than id even hoped for, something he very much had to coach me through, we did so without creating animosity. My xwife and I are now in a healthy coparenting relationship and we are all happily moving on to our next chapter of life.

Charles and his team came into my case after about six months where I had other representation and made tremendous strides towards getting me a fair settlement. Charles's experience was well worth my investment with him. I could not have been more pleased with the final outcome. I can assure anyone who faces a challenging divorce process, that Charles is incredibly capable and determined in his representation of his clients.

Charles and his team were so supportive and patient with me from start to finish. He took the time to understand the nuances of my case, gave me realistic expectations, and delivered results. The legal process is so daunting. I’m so grateful to have a lawyer who is so experienced and well respected in the community. He had my best interest at heart and counseled me accordingly. I’m so grateful for his services!

I have had experience with my share of attorneys in the past and hired Charles Medlin and his team on the recommendation of a friend. Had I had him fighting for me to begin with, I would not have needed to seek his help later. He fought for me and we were very successful. I didn’t have calls unanswered, I didn’t have to wait for responses, etc. I felt like I was completely taken care of and believed in from the beginning. Cost is certainly a factor when hiring an attorney. But like I stated before, had I hired Charles (and Marilyn Bardie-Kapaun, Lauren Barrett, etc) to begin with, my custody case wouldn’t have had to go to court three times. The paralegal (Hannah) also worked her tail off for me and knows the law! If I could talk personally to anyone looking into using their services, you would hire them before our conversation ended. Absolutely brilliant and bulldogs for their clients which is what you want. Charles and his associates all felt like family by the time we were done. I miss them now but I’m glad to be through it. Thank you so much, Charles!!!

I can't say enough good things about Charles. I had no idea how complex a divorce would be, and I’m sincerely grateful to Charles and his whole team for their sage counsel and thorough work. They utterly know how to master a divorce for their clients. Charles isn't just a lawyer, but a psychologist, a gamer and a master of numbers. I didn’t know they taught that in law school. He also was frank and straightforward about guiding me around some of my ideas when he knew they wouldn't work. That skill and experience was perfect for me.

I showed up in court in a wheelchair back in early February of 2020. I had been going back and forth with the roofing company that put a lien on my home after they failed to uphold the commitments made in our contract. I suffered multiple strokes in those two years, and I could barely catch my breath long enough to argue my case effectively that day in court. While exiting the courtroom Attorney Gibson handed me her card and told me to give her a call. From the moment she handed me that card Attorney Gibson completely took over and handled the situation for me. I never had to lift a finger because she took care of it all. Today my matter is resolved and the lien is removed from my home. Thank you GLF!

Ms. Gibson has helped my client (a startup company) with several immigration issues in regards to securing visas for our employees. Ms. Gibson was always helpful, quick to respond, and did not mind explaining the nuances of immigration law. I will definitely use Ms. Gibson's services again.

Goes well beyond the normal duties provided by most attorneys. Provides counsel based on helping improve your business by finding a way to get the job done. Has a positiive attitude towards accomplishing the objective. Does not list all the reasons why you cannot do something. In addition to providing wise and sage counsel, he helps coach my small business. His 13 years of experience, including combat experience, as an officer in the Marine Corps provides a unique understanding of how to incorporate and integrate his advice into practice within my company, as opposed to just telling me what to do. That is, my people really look forward to hearing how he can help them and my business. For example, in order for my business to survive, the government dictated that we had to become self regulated by joining the old NASD. We did not even know what that meant. Every other attorney, and the NASD told us it was impossible for us to join. The fact that we did not trade securities, by definition, prohibited us from joining the National Association of Securities Dealers, a non governmental self regulated organization. Not only did he help us to become a member of the NASD, he held our hand through the entire process. He did everything from coaching our traders on the floor to sit beside us and fielded all questions in our interviews in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. He drafted and implemented all procedures required to accomplish the result. He even used his network to contact the chairman of the commission. We did not trade any

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Atlanta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
