I had the opportunity to hire Attorney Edwards to assist in helping me resolve a probate mediation agreement dispute. Although the damage had already been done considering that me and my siblings had already signed the agreement, Attorney Edwards assisted us by reviewing documents and providing us with factual guidance on how to move forward. He was very clear and concise when presenting the best case scenario and he is very knowledgeable regarding the law. I would definitely recommend him because he is very attentive and prompt in answering your questions, emails, and phone calls. I wish I had found him first when I was initially searching for a probate attorney because I do believe he would have put the work in to ensure that we received the outcome that we were looking for. However, considering I didn't, he did a great job in working with what I presented. Not to mention, his prices are not as high as your average probate attorneys.

I am so glad that I found Calvin Edwards to represent me! He was always available no matter what time of the day I text or called because I had a question. Mr.Edwards always took the time to explain everything that was going on step by step and I was never left wondering, “What is he doing, what’s going on with my case and why hasn’t contacted me in over a month”. He is also every trustworthy and dependable seeing that I never met him face to face. Calvin Edwards is one the best attorneys out here, again, I am so glad I found an attorney like him. If you ever need an attorney in GA, CAEJ Law, P.C. is the place to go!

I was in an accident in NC almost 3 yrs. ago. Calvin was very helpful in explaining to me my options and ways to think abou the case. He made some very helpful suggestions on how to proceed with time being of the essence. He was generous with his time, attention and thoughts and I felt like he really cared.

Back In January of 2017 I was in a horrible hit and run accident. I was able to get the drivers plate number but I was left with pain and doctors visits and I began this journey with Kanner and Pintaluga which was NOT the best move for me as they were solely focused on helping their partners, avoiding my calls, and a lot of other shady business. So I sought legal counsel elsewhere and came in contact with Calvin. This man has been very kind, and professional. Making sure that I got exactly what I needed and gave me what I wanted.. the FACTS. He helped me understand how everything works from beginning to end and fought hard for me to make sure I got all that I needed and went above and beyond the call of duty to help me sift through all the documents and paperwork as I am very hands on. Thank you Calvin, hopefully I wont get in another accident but you relieved so much stress for me and made this ordeal so much better than when I first started out.

Imagine your in a position where your life is flashing in front of your eyes.......That is the feeling I had when my husband and i found out that if he were to be convicted of the charges that he had against him he would be facing 15 to 25 yrs in prison which to most is a lifetime. In a position like that you need to have a lawyer behind you who you know has your best at heart. Initial contact with Mr.edwards was welcoming and comforting I left his office knowing that if I had to put my husbands life in someones hands it would be his without a doubt! To make this long story short My husband was facing federal prison time if convicted of his charges. Calvin put in a motion to suppress and WON! The charges had to be dismissed and now my husband is a free man. I cant put into words how thankful I am and how much appreciate everything he has done for my family. IF YOU NEED A CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY WHO IS GOING TO FIGHT FOR YOU AS HARD AS YOU WOULD FIGHT FOR YOURSELF I RECOMMEND MR.EDWARDS without hesitation!

I showed up in court in a wheelchair back in early February of 2020. I had been going back and forth with the roofing company that put a lien on my home after they failed to uphold the commitments made in our contract. I suffered multiple strokes in those two years, and I could barely catch my breath long enough to argue my case effectively that day in court. While exiting the courtroom Attorney Gibson handed me her card and told me to give her a call. From the moment she handed me that card Attorney Gibson completely took over and handled the situation for me. I never had to lift a finger because she took care of it all. Today my matter is resolved and the lien is removed from my home. Thank you GLF!

Ms. Gibson has helped my client (a startup company) with several immigration issues in regards to securing visas for our employees. Ms. Gibson was always helpful, quick to respond, and did not mind explaining the nuances of immigration law. I will definitely use Ms. Gibson's services again.

Goes well beyond the normal duties provided by most attorneys. Provides counsel based on helping improve your business by finding a way to get the job done. Has a positiive attitude towards accomplishing the objective. Does not list all the reasons why you cannot do something. In addition to providing wise and sage counsel, he helps coach my small business. His 13 years of experience, including combat experience, as an officer in the Marine Corps provides a unique understanding of how to incorporate and integrate his advice into practice within my company, as opposed to just telling me what to do. That is, my people really look forward to hearing how he can help them and my business. For example, in order for my business to survive, the government dictated that we had to become self regulated by joining the old NASD. We did not even know what that meant. Every other attorney, and the NASD told us it was impossible for us to join. The fact that we did not trade securities, by definition, prohibited us from joining the National Association of Securities Dealers, a non governmental self regulated organization. Not only did he help us to become a member of the NASD, he held our hand through the entire process. He did everything from coaching our traders on the floor to sit beside us and fielded all questions in our interviews in Washington DC and Atlanta GA. He drafted and implemented all procedures required to accomplish the result. He even used his network to contact the chairman of the commission. We did not trade any

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Atlanta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
