Last year, I was involved in a car accident. I was hit by drunk driver. As a result, I was told to seek a lawyer and referred to Frails & Wilson. I am satisfied with how they handled my case. They were really helpful and friendly. I highly recommend them to anyone. In the end, I received a fair settlement.

Attorney Wilson was very responsive. My case involved an automobile accident. He kept me informed throughout the process. He provided realistic options with probable consequences that allowed me to select the best course of action. The case was settled to my satisfaction.

Pursuant to O,C.G.A. Section 40-5-121(a), upon a first conviction of driving with a suspended license within five years, the defendant will be assessed a minimum fine of $500. The maximum fine is $1,000. A minimum confinement period of two days is often imposed as well. Disorderly conduct, which is a less serious offense than driving with a suspended license, generally yields a lesser fine (usually around $300). If the previous reviewer believes other defendants received lesser fines, it's probably because they were pleading to disorderly conduct or some other minor offense. It thus appears that the previous reviewer's brother-in-law actually received the lowest fine he could have possibly received for the offense to which he pled, and it sounds like he wasn't sentenced to any jail time. Even though he had resolved the issue leading to his license suspension in the first place (his child support arrearages), that did not change the fact that his license was suspended at the time he was arrested. That's probably why the DA wouldn't drop the charges. Under the circumstances, the attorney obtained a very positive outcome for the defendant. My dealings with this attorney have been nothing but positive.

My Brother in law had a ticket for a suspended license due to child support payments. He did not know his license were suspended because he had been in and out of jail for several years due to drug use. He has been clean and sober and going through drug court about to graduate when someone ran a red light and hit him. That is when he found out about the suspended license. He immediately went and got his license and took care of child support before his court date. He asked for a court appointed attorney and got Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson refused to tell the judge he already got his license back and ask for charges to be dropped. Instead, he told us that it is standard procedure that his license will be resuspended for 4 months because he submitted a plea and he only asked the judge for a temporary license. This resulted in a $500 fine and 12 months probation even though it has been taken care of! No one else in court that day (close to 100 people) for MUCH worse crimes got more than a $300 fine. This should have beed a dismissed charge but Mr. Wilson failed to give the judge all of the facts.

George Bush was a huge help in my husband's SS case. He got us a hearing within a very short period of time. At the hearing, he told us exactly what would happen, which calmed my husband who was a nervous wreck. We got the hearing judge's decision within the following week. Cannot thank you enough Mr Bush!

I HIGHLY recommend Mr. Thomas Burnside III. He made sure I understood everything that was going on in my case & helped me make the right choice when it came to my settlement. My injury left me with large scars that will never go away and he was very sympathetic and understanding about how that's going to affect me now and in the future. He kept me informed about what was going on in my case and he worked diligently to make sure I was compensated for everything I went through, including loss of wages and medical expenses.. He was thorough and he worked fast so I didn't get behind with my bills while I was out of work. He truly is an awesome lawyer & I am so thankful for everything he did for me. Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Augusta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
