Mr. Parker made the bankruptcy process easy and very painless. I had lived with a crippling amount of debt for over ten years and felt that I deserved a fresh start. After the free consultation call I felt confident that Mr. Parker was the right attorney for me. He helped determine that I was eligible for Chapter 7. He made me feel comfortable and explained everything about the bankruptcy process in a clear and concise way that I understood, without all the confusing legal jargon one might expect from the court system. I lived with a lot of shame as a result of my debt. After meeting with him the first time I was able to provide a huge box of bills that had piled up over the years and he painstakingly went through every single document to compile my bankruptcy petition. As of yesterday, all of my debt has been discharged, and I'm very pleased by Mr. Parker's services. I'm finally free of the burden of excess debt and happy to have a clean slate! I would highly recommend Mr. Ken Parker if you're considering filing bankruptcy.

Two years ago I used Ken Parker for my bankruptcy. My case went without a single problem. Ken was courteous, informative, and patient with my lack of knowledge. He was quick to return my phone calls and emails. I felt confident in his expertise and trusted that everything would go well. But what I really want to say is about a conversation we had just last week. I am thinking of buying a new car and so I called Ken to see if there was anything I should know. He gave me considerable (free!) time on the phone and did not insist that I make an appointment. But best of all, even from two years ago he remembered who I was and was able to find the details of my case easily. I was very impressed with his friendliness and willingness to help me, even two years later. I would very much recommend Ken Parker.

I am a unique client. I like to get “into the weeds” on the legal side of things. Mike was excellent at working with me on two separate occasions. In 2017, Mike negotiated on my behalf to keep my house and avoid high child support payments and settle for 50/50 custody in my divorce case in Cobb County. This enabled me to stay in my child’s life on a constant basis and remain a stable parent. After a relocation from the child’s other coparent, I had to step into being a full-time parent. So in late 2023, I filed a modification case as a Pro Se plaintiff. It turned out to be more difficult than I could navigate after discovery. I knew the law, but didn’t know how to turn it in my favor. I called Mike again. He quickly brought himself up to speed. We successfully defended delay tactics by the defendant. In less than 4 months, Mike was able to me help successfully settle this case with full custody & child support. I couldn’t have done it without him. Thanks Mike for your hard work & dedication to resolving 2 cases in my favor. Mike is the kind of lawyer you tell your friends to call. He’s reasonable, knowledgeable, & well-connected. Turn your major life event back in your favor by calling Mike today!

May 2020 I was charged with misdemeanor for Driving on a suspended license and possession of marijuana. This being my first offenses I contacted several lawyers in lowndes county who weren't very optimistic about the outcome of my case. FinaIly I was referred to Mr. Shipp who from the very first conversation I knew he had my best interests. After reviewing my case he took the time to make sure I was well informed about my rights and options. He worked hard for me and got both cases dismissed in less then 3 months. If your looking to be well represented in your case Look No Further Than J Shipp. This Man Knows The Game!

My name is Dr. Elizabeth Webster and I am a former candidate for House District 35. Jay represented my campaign when I made the decision to sue Cobb County seeking equitable relief in response to questionable election recount practices. Jay immediately filed a request for an injunction, which was granted and represented our campaign zealously in court. He is knowledgeable about campaign and election law and is an excellent trial attorney. I unreservedly recommend Jay and would not hesitate to engage him in the future.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Buford, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
