Typically, I'm not an online reviewer. This one, however, is absolutely worth writing and long overdue. Almost 10 years ago, Stacy Bondurant began representing me in a civil matter. Since then, my case has unfortunately persisted taking many unexpected twists and turns. From the immediate onset, Ms. Bondurant and her assistant, Kristine, have advocated continuously on my behalf. Through the years she has most certainly proven to be tried and true. She is easily accessible. She is honest and forthcoming yet compassionate. She listens to and addresses all of my concerns. She exercises sound judgement and gives wise guidance. In fact, I've never encountered an unfavorable outcome as a result of her advice. Most of all, she is dedicated and has persevered on my case giving exceptional overall service that has not wavered. Words can't express my gratitude to Ms. Bondurant and her assistant, Kristine. My family, without a doubt, has been blessed from their years of faithful, hard work. In today's world filled with uncertainties, I'm sure of this very thing. If you’re in need of an attorney, try Stacy Bondurant. She does not disappoint!

Let me be clear...anyone with anything negative to say about Stacy is simply angry because they had their false expectations of a situation that was destined to fail to begin with. If you have done everything in your power to do things the right way in your situation, then your outcome has a better chance of being a positive one for you. Stacy is a straightforward, no-nonsense individual. The moment she told me that her main priority in my case was my child, I knew hands down she was the right one for the job. After going through a series of custody battles for ten years, she was the only one that truly cared about the well being of my son. She fought hard for my baby. I am truly thankful I found her. I implore anyone reading this, if you want someone to fight for you and your family...Stacy is without a doubt your choice.

I had a horrible experience. I trusted her to fight for me and she talked it up to get hired then she never delivered. She never did anything about all the harassment he had done to me. Then she acted like my text to him about my child were grounds to withdrawal from counsel. It was pathetic. I spent two and a half months with her and she never even went to court then charged me for emails and phone calls which I know took very little time. It wasn’t a difficult case. She promised to take him to court for custody since he only had a temporary custody order. It never happened. She pushed the court date out 6 months when I had my daughter telling me he was smoking weed. It was crazy. She never had him drug tested or anything. Zero results 2 1/12 months later still at square one. The only thing she produced was agreeing with another lawyer on a Guardian Ad Litem. She took my money and she thinks it’s ok. She dropped me because I text him. Of course I’m angry. I paid a lot of money to stop him from moving with my daughter and she did zero to prevent it from happening. I’m litterally more destroyed now than before I gave her a couple grand. I feel cheated and like a joke. He got away with being so wrong to me and this woman did nothing to fight for me like she promised. This is my exes accomplice in a huge misjustice of the law.

I was referred to Stacy by another attorney in Columbus with an excellent record she was unable to help me because of a conflict of interest she represented ex wife in her first divorce the attorney that was unable to represent me gave me a business card with two names and numbers on it I asked her about the two attorneys listed on the back of the business card she said Stacey will get out there and handle it for you she's a real fighter and should get it taken care of for you. The other male attorney that she had put on the back of the business card she said he'll represent you but he is not a real fighter like stacy.

Dan has been dealing with our case for 8 years...he is dealing with opposing counsel that probably should be reported to the state bar. He is not only vigilant, but kind. He truly cares about the outcome of our case and works tirelessly on our behalf. Would recommend him without reservation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Columbus, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
