A few years ago we had Michele draw up a trust and update our wills. She explained everything to us and we had our children involved in the meeting to make it a family affair. Everything was explained to us and our children for whatever happens as we get older. I have contacted her several times to answer more questions that I have and she’s always helpful and patient with me. I always feel like she has our best interest.

My husband and I are looking into getting our wills done in case something should happen to us. We have two young children and Michelle helped to explain all of our options, not just for a will, but multiple things. She was patient and listened to what we’re looking for to help protect ourselves and loved ones. We’re going out of town soon and can’t wait to hire her when we get back!

I was recommended John through a friend with high expectations and he did more than deliver. He was a very smooth and down to earth speaker and able to turn complicated legal terms into understandable laymens. His ability to let you know what all possible options are and based on his considerable experience what he believes is best for you is very reassuring. I would highly recommend John to anyone of my friends or family that live in the Forsyth area.

Mr. John Rife is a lawyer I would recommend to anyone and everyone. He helped me get out of a really tough situation with the best possible outcome, in compliance with the law, and while taking the 'scary' out of needing a lawyer and being involved with the court system. He talked to me like a human being, and made sure that I understood legal terminology put into plain English, and always along the way never put me into a position where I was uncomfortable or disagreed with the way he was proceeding with my case. He told me everything I'd need to do to get my case handled directly and smoothly, and gave me the chance to be proactive which really helped me out. Your not just another dollar sign to this guy- and that's rare to find in lawyers.

John Rife provided excellent representation for my son who was arrested twice on drug offenses; one arrest occurring while he was out on bail for the first arrest. While my son was required to serve two months jail time while he was awaiting his court dates, Mr. Rife was able to get him probation, drug counseling, and community service with no additional jail/prison time to serve. I believe Mr. Rife's established rapport with law enforcement/judicial officials in Cobb County helped in my son's case. He was also very responsive to me and my husband and my son throughout the process, despite the fact that he was very busy with other cases. I would definitely recommend Mr. Rife if you are in need of an experienced criminal attorney in Cobb County.

Two years ago when I first met with Stuart he advised me based on the facts at the time to try to settle my issue outside of the legal process based on the facts at the time. One year later he re-visited my situation at my request, accepted the challenge, and with his knowledge in the area of County Laws and Homeowners Associations we arrived at a settlement satisfactory to all parties within about a year of filing the lawsuit. I would not hesitate to recommend Stuart Teague to anyone in need of a knowledgeable, capable and successful lawyer in Forsyth County, Georgia.

When I started looking for a lawyer, I knew exactly what I wanted and needed. What I wanted was a lawyer who had the knowledge to handle my situation and be willing to research all of the finer details. What I needed, and this is very important to me, was someone who I felt I could really trust and count on. Personality always matters to me. I need to feel a connection with a person in order to be able to have them be a part of my life. In my effort to find an attorney, I spoke with quite a few. Although some of them represented themselves in a great way, I did not feel the connection that I was looking for. I simply needed more. Then a friend of mine told me about James Stuart Teague. They only had good things to say about him. So, I decided it was worth making yet another phone call. I left a message for Mr. Teague, and within 45 minuutes, he returned my call. I was pretty amazed by this, due to the fact that it was well past 5:00 p.m. I thought I would not get a call till the next day. Then, not only did he call me back after hours, but he stayed on the phone with me for well over an hour discussing my issues. Within the first fifteen minutes of our conversation, I knew that I had found my lawyer. His knowledge base was amazing, and he immediately made me feel less stressed about my situation. I knew that this was the person who I needed and wanted to be on my side. After our conversation, I felt that not only had I chosen the best lawyer to help me, but I had chosen a person that I would want to have as a friend. Again, that is very important to me. Well, here I am six months later, writing this with a big smile on my face! I did make the right choice. James Stuart Teague is amazing. Any time you have to deal with an attorney, it is going to be stressful. However, he has made this whole process so much less stressful then I ever could have imagined. He has a calmness about him that really puts you at ease. He has researched all that has needed to be researched, and he always tells it like it is. I call or email him with questions and concerns probably more than the average person would, and he always gets back to me in a timely matter. He never seems rushed or bothered. I am aware that he has many other clients that he is working with, however, I always feel as if I am his only one. He really makes you feel special! My situation is going along quite smoothly and both my husband and myslelf are just thrilled with "my" pick. We are also happy because it is always nice to make a new friend. So, whether he likes it or not, James Stuart Teague will not only remain our lifelong attorney, he will also remain our lifelong friend.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cumming, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
