I perceive Josh to be one of the good guys! A defender of the constitutional, inalienable rights of property ownership and will fight to receive highest and best use value for your property!

Josh went above and beyond to protect my rights against an overreaching City and solved the problem at the lowest possible level without litigation or even headache. He did a great job of explaining my case to me and listening to my point of view on strategy. I use attorneys for various things regularly, and Josh is definitely one that you can turn loose and just show up for your hearing. I have never seen a more prepared attorney, I will use Josh time and time again.

The Georgia DOT was about to condemn my property to widen a road. I hired Josh and he took the time to walk me through the condemnation process. He then reviewed the road plans with me and explained exactly what the DOT was taking. Josh answered every one of my questions and I felt a great sense of relief when I left his office after my initial consultation. He really put my mind at ease. Once negotiations started with DOT, Josh had already compiled all of the local sales comps and the DOT’s lawyer knew that Josh was willing to go to court if necsssary to get me the most money for the property that was being condemned. Once it was over Josh had gotten me a settlement of over $800,000!!! Hiring Josh for my condemnation case was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I hired Josh to litigate a denied zoning from a county government. Also, he assisted in guiding me through the zoning process and finding potential buyers for my property once he successfully secured my zoning. He was also successful in winning cases from surrounding property owners who tried to stop and delay my zoning. His fees were reasonable and he definitely took a special interest in my case. I would consider Josh one of the top land use lawyers in the state of Georgia, having used previous lawyers from Atlanta with bigger names and reputations. I would with out a doubt use Josh again for any future projects where his skills are needed. I know he has been successful in many cases in the county I live and surrounding counties where land use law is needed to secure, litigate a zoning or selling property.

As the developer of numerous large scale residential and mixed use projects in the northeast Georgia area, Josh's expertise in navigating the complex regulations, working with neighboring property owners and negotiating with local government officials for the best possible result has resulted in millions of dollars in profits to my development company. Unlike many zoning attorneys Josh will not hesitate to go to court to protect his client's interests against local governments who abuse their powers.

I was recommended John through a friend with high expectations and he did more than deliver. He was a very smooth and down to earth speaker and able to turn complicated legal terms into understandable laymens. His ability to let you know what all possible options are and based on his considerable experience what he believes is best for you is very reassuring. I would highly recommend John to anyone of my friends or family that live in the Forsyth area.

Mr. John Rife is a lawyer I would recommend to anyone and everyone. He helped me get out of a really tough situation with the best possible outcome, in compliance with the law, and while taking the 'scary' out of needing a lawyer and being involved with the court system. He talked to me like a human being, and made sure that I understood legal terminology put into plain English, and always along the way never put me into a position where I was uncomfortable or disagreed with the way he was proceeding with my case. He told me everything I'd need to do to get my case handled directly and smoothly, and gave me the chance to be proactive which really helped me out. Your not just another dollar sign to this guy- and that's rare to find in lawyers.

John Rife provided excellent representation for my son who was arrested twice on drug offenses; one arrest occurring while he was out on bail for the first arrest. While my son was required to serve two months jail time while he was awaiting his court dates, Mr. Rife was able to get him probation, drug counseling, and community service with no additional jail/prison time to serve. I believe Mr. Rife's established rapport with law enforcement/judicial officials in Cobb County helped in my son's case. He was also very responsive to me and my husband and my son throughout the process, despite the fact that he was very busy with other cases. I would definitely recommend Mr. Rife if you are in need of an experienced criminal attorney in Cobb County.

Our situation was a very sensitive case because my minor son was injured . Mr. Leibel was so sensitive to my son's feelings. He really listened to his wants and needs. He was NOT greedy and never tried to push him into something just to get a bigger settlement . He does shoot straight from the hip and lets you know exactly where you stand. We never had to worry that things were being sugar coated. This man has a heart and really does care about the well being of his client!!! He even sat down after case was settled and told my son how proud he was of him and his come back. I hope I never need his services again but if I do I have know doubt who I would call!!! GREAT , CARING attorney ! One in a million!

I went to Mr. Vaughan to help me with several contracts, and to get legal advice on how to handle a potential law suit. Mr. Vaughan was patient and thorough. He took the time to review the contracts, make suggestions, and to explain things in a way that I could understand.

I was involved in an automobile accident that was not only traumatic, but very complicated. Even though I was completely stopped at a traffic sign, and the other driver left their lane and struck my car, effectively taking off the entire front end of the car, I was listed as being at fault. Did I mention that the car was 18 hours old? Yes, a brand new van with less than 30 miles on it. At any rate, my friend recommended that I call Mr. Vaughan, which I did from the crash site. Not only did he take my call immediately and personally, but he compassionately walked me through every step of the horrific process from the emergency room to final disposition. No question or concern was too trivial for Mr. Vaughan. He aggressively protected me from the other insurance company, and surprisingly my own insurance company! He was on the line with every phone call and fielded every question. He did not permit anyone to further victimize me. Mr. Vaughan was what an attorney is supposed to be, but regrettably rarely are. In the end all of my medical bills were taken care of, the other driver was taken care of, and I got a brand new van. Were it not for Mr. Vaughan's compassion, knowledge and unrelenting advocacy on my behalf the accident could have been catastrophic. I do not like attorneys, and I certainly have no trust in attorneys; however, Mr. Vaughan is, as I've already said, what and attorney is supposed to be. Should I or anyone I know ever need legal representation, Mr. Vaughan will be the first person called.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cumming, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
