In July 2019, a work accident caused a compression fracture of one of my vertebrae which essentially ended my ability to do my current job. After months of struggling, I chose to retain Elliot Bourne in January of 2020. He arranged for my ongoing care to be managed by a doctor who wasn't just trying to push me back to work. Elliott also facilitated countless weeks of physical therapy and multiple non-surgical procedures to help with my pain. At no point was I ever pressured to take a low settlement, plus Elliot, as well as Angela (the firm's paralegal) always kept me informed during every stage of the process. I truly cannot thank the Bourne Law Firm enough for literally having my back for the last four years. If you experience a work injury, just ignore the daytime tv ads and call the Bourne Law Firm as soon as possible.

Mr. Bourne and his lawfirm assisted me with an institution that had no intention or concerns for my well being. Mr. Bourne was always responsive to my calls in which I only called him when it was necessary. I have no doubt I could have not had this finalization with out him. Thank you Mr. BOURNE

I highered the Bourn Law Firm after my first attorney told me that there was nothing he could do. Not only did they pick up my cade and carry it all the way to a massive win for my family and I, but they kept us very informed the entire time and were always very easy to get ahold of. I highly recommend this law firm.

I was in a car accident and was injured. Elliot was very knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us through our lawsuit. His assistant Angela, listened to me rant, (was always professional) walked me through forms and emails and always responded quickly to my questions. Bourne Law was very professional and was determined to help us get what we deserved.

I had the pleasure of working with Susan Zereini as my attorney, and I couldn't be more impressed with her professionalism and expertise. From the start, it was clear that Susan knows the legal system inside and out. She offers straightforward, honest advice without any overpromises, which I found both refreshing and reassuring. I was recommended John through a friend with high expectations and he did more than deliver. He was a very smooth and down to earth speaker and able to turn complicated legal terms into understandable laymens. His ability to let you know what all possible options are and based on his considerable experience what he believes is best for you is very reassuring. I would highly recommend John to anyone of my friends or family that live in the Forsyth area.

Mr. John Rife is a lawyer I would recommend to anyone and everyone. He helped me get out of a really tough situation with the best possible outcome, in compliance with the law, and while taking the 'scary' out of needing a lawyer and being involved with the court system. He talked to me like a human being, and made sure that I understood legal terminology put into plain English, and always along the way never put me into a position where I was uncomfortable or disagreed with the way he was proceeding with my case. He told me everything I'd need to do to get my case handled directly and smoothly, and gave me the chance to be proactive which really helped me out. Your not just another dollar sign to this guy- and that's rare to find in lawyers.

John Rife provided excellent representation for my son who was arrested twice on drug offenses; one arrest occurring while he was out on bail for the first arrest. While my son was required to serve two months jail time while he was awaiting his court dates, Mr. Rife was able to get him probation, drug counseling, and community service with no additional jail/prison time to serve. I believe Mr. Rife's established rapport with law enforcement/judicial officials in Cobb County helped in my son's case. He was also very responsive to me and my husband and my son throughout the process, despite the fact that he was very busy with other cases. I would definitely recommend Mr. Rife if you are in need of an experienced criminal attorney in Cobb County.

Our situation was a very sensitive case because my minor son was injured . Mr. Leibel was so sensitive to my son's feelings. He really listened to his wants and needs. He was NOT greedy and never tried to push him into something just to get a bigger settlement . He does shoot straight from the hip and lets you know exactly where you stand. We never had to worry that things were being sugar coated. This man has a heart and really does care about the well being of his client!!! He even sat down after case was settled and told my son how proud he was of him and his come back. I hope I never need his services again but if I do I have know doubt who I would call!!! GREAT , CARING attorney ! One in a million!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cumming, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
