She is simply the BEST and truly a heaven sent to me when she came into my life (at my one of my lowest points.) She will forever be my go to if any circumstances occur in which I need legal representation.

I am incredibly grateful for the guidance and the total experience I benefited from with attorney Andrea Conarro and paralegal Debbie. A divorce case, my biggest fear was becoming emotionally irrational and losing sight of my one goal which was to just extricate myself from a person. I also knew there was plenty of potential to get upset and go off track. A lot of attorneys “know the law” but I would certainly question the ethics of some. For example, the soon-to-be ex’s attorney called me whereupon I immediately and politely informed him that I had representation with Ms Conarro (which he said he understood). About two hours later he called again. I was polite again but it was easy to assume the second call wasn’t a mistake as he claimed. With a case that should have been easily processed mutually this was the reason I knew I needed a formidable attorney. I did want someone professionally competent (of course) but just as strongly ethically-guided as well. My best hopes were immediately confirmed as such throughout via phone conversations, the initial consultation (Ms Conarro has a very striking and confident presence) and emails, and all of the other legal machinations. Andrea kept me on point throughout (even when I was ready to do otherwise!) while rationally and assuringly guiding my expectations. If you seek fairness and want to avoid partnering with the slimy, my experience with Andrea is one purely rooted in doing what is fair and honorably right, the first time, and the right way always. Btw, I wasn’t aware beforehand but Andrea admirably does a lot with her personal time for the community here.

Pros
1
Highly knowledgeable and professional attorney who provides excellent legal counsel
“She's cool-headed and brilliant, extremely professional. Her all-women staff are also smart, efficient, funny, and kind.”
2
Prioritizes ethical, long-term solutions over short-term gains
“Instead of fanning the flames of conflict (which I've heard some attorneys will do just to prolong cases for more money) she always talked me down and encouraged me to dial it back.”
3
Caring and emotionally attuned to her clients' needs
“Andrea is very emotionally tuned in--and understands abuse dynamics. And while her communication style is professional, calm, and level, she takes her clients' and their children's welfare *VERY* seriously.”
4
Highly responsive and accessible to clients
“The only time I did not get an answer, I texted her "911" because of the gravity of the situation and she called right away.”
5
Excellent reputation in the community
“The reputation of this law office in our community is excellent. I recommend you give them a call.”
Cons
1
Some clients feel the attorney is overly aggressive and does not prioritize the child's best interests
“She acted unilaterally without her clients knowledge and tried to strong arm and intimidate me because I was unrepresented. She doesn't care about the child's best interest and only wants to win, as if this was a game.”
2
Billing concerns, with some clients feeling they were charged high fees
“No scruples, no ability, bad reputation, huge bills. Do yourself a favor and take a pass.”

Mr. Adkins handled my child custody case. He did a tremendous job and everything worked out to my satisfaction. His knowledge of paternity cases is vast and his fees were very reasonable considering the large work load he handled for me. Mr. Adkins' office staff is very professional too. I would most certainly recommend Mr. Adkins as an excellent attorney for criminal and or civil cases of all types.

Alfred help me with my divorce and two times to claim past child support payments. He is a very honest and reliable lawyer. Always answering your questions or doubts, either by e-mail, text messages and/or phone. He's not that kind of lawyer who play dirty or make up stuff to win. So you can be sure he would do everything he can, without breaking the law, to win your cases, to do the proper paperwork. I can never repay all you did for me and my family. Jehovah bless you and your family!

I was in the market for an Attorney for a child custody case, Mr. Chang was the first attorney I spoke with and the only Attorney I spoke with! I hired him that week and within 6 weeks, I was granted full custody of my daughter. He is absolutely the best Attorney that I have ever used, and will continue to use him if the need arises. Thank you so much Alfred Chang for everything you did for my daughter and I

I hired Alfred Chang for my divorce and child support issues. He was very reasonable, and I will continue to use him for any future concerns I have with my ex. He provided hope when we felt our chances of success were impossible. He was very professional, empathetic, and offered a way out of a very dark time in our lives. My children and I are so thankful and grateful for his help and I will continue to recommend Alfred Chang to anyone needing a fantastic Family Lawyer.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dahlonega, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
