Miguel was the best lawyer I've ever had and the easiest to deal with. I told him everything regarding my case and what I wanted. He got started on my case right away! I was so amazed and happy to know that I'd finally found an honest, hard working lawyer who was on my side the entire time! Miguel just blew my mind!. He knows what he's doing and he doesn't stop until the job is completely finished! I am one very happy client! He also helped me with some other paperwork after my case was closed. Give him a call, see if he can help with your situation. Trust me, if he can, he will do the job quickly, and in the most professional way! Highly, highly recommend Miguel and Mountain Top Law! You will not regret it!

Miguel is really one of a kind. He was dealing with my personal injury case in the beginning of 2022, and then after few months he moved to work at a different law firm. I was assigned a new lawyer that didn’t do half of what Miguel did, so I decided to find his information and hire him again. Best decision ever! From the smallest details to the biggest ones- he was there to help, guide and finally- get a result that was unrealistic to other lawyers that I spoke to. He is always available for my questions and goes above and beyond to make sure I understand every aspect of my case. Even helped me with my property damage claim!!!!!!!! I can’t thank him enough! This case was such a burden on me until I was reconnected with Miguel. Thank you, thank you and thank you again! I will never use a different lawyer and will absolutely recommend Miguel to EVERYONE I know.

He was amazing and very knowledgeable with my case. Anytime, I had questions they were answered. As a current servicemember, I love their forward-leaning attitude and updates. I'm also very happy with how they fought for me to get what I deserved and did not take no for an answer no matter the wait and persistence required.

Mr. Adkins handled my child custody case. He did a tremendous job and everything worked out to my satisfaction. His knowledge of paternity cases is vast and his fees were very reasonable considering the large work load he handled for me. Mr. Adkins' office staff is very professional too. I would most certainly recommend Mr. Adkins as an excellent attorney for criminal and or civil cases of all types.

I was in a contentious family law suit for 3 years, ultimately leading us to juvenile court. Callie Wolcott was able to thoroughly clean it up, and expose facts that had been previously ignored. She is aggressive, intelligent, extremely efficient, and kept me well informed. I recommend her highly and without reservation.

Alfred help me with my divorce and two times to claim past child support payments. He is a very honest and reliable lawyer. Always answering your questions or doubts, either by e-mail, text messages and/or phone. He's not that kind of lawyer who play dirty or make up stuff to win. So you can be sure he would do everything he can, without breaking the law, to win your cases, to do the proper paperwork. I can never repay all you did for me and my family. Jehovah bless you and your family!

I was in the market for an Attorney for a child custody case, Mr. Chang was the first attorney I spoke with and the only Attorney I spoke with! I hired him that week and within 6 weeks, I was granted full custody of my daughter. He is absolutely the best Attorney that I have ever used, and will continue to use him if the need arises. Thank you so much Alfred Chang for everything you did for my daughter and I

I hired Alfred Chang for my divorce and child support issues. He was very reasonable, and I will continue to use him for any future concerns I have with my ex. He provided hope when we felt our chances of success were impossible. He was very professional, empathetic, and offered a way out of a very dark time in our lives. My children and I are so thankful and grateful for his help and I will continue to recommend Alfred Chang to anyone needing a fantastic Family Lawyer.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dahlonega, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
