I honestly don't even know where to start. My divorce case was a complete nightmare. There is no worse feeling as a parent, than to know your child's best interest lays in the hands of someone else. It was terrifying. At the end of my case, I can honestly say Ms. Evans was the best lawyer I could have ever asked for. She fought hard for my daughter. I genuinely felt like she was fighting for her well being, just as she would want for her own. She kept her safe. Ms. Evans knows her stuff and is on top of it. She is prepared and can rebuttal facts! She is not only good at what she does, but she cares for her clients. She is very affordable and will work with her clients. Bianka is just as amazing. She is always polite and listens to your concerns. All around, I couldn't be more satisfied and will definitely use them again, when I am ready for my adoption case. If you find yourself looking for the best, definitely hire Ms. Evans. I promise you wont be disappointed. She is worth every penny! Ms. Evans won my divorce case, and also handled my tpr case and won it as well. My daughters and myself are now safe, due to her diligence, hard work, outstanding knowledge of family law, and passion for what she does. I give her a 100%

Jana and her team went above and beyond what was necessary to make sure all the details in our case were covered. She consistently gave good advice, responded to inquiries quickly, and pursued whatever was needed for us to finalize the guardianship, and then the adoption, of our child. She took care of many things "behind the scenes" that we had not even thought of needing to be done. Her rates were fair and, honestly, her services are worth more than what she charges. You should definitely contact her for family court services.

I truly appreciate Jana Evans as my lawyer for our adoption case. She's very sweet, caring, understanding, professional, knowledgeable, easy to get along with, very affordable, works hard on our behalf and goes above & beyond for our family needs. I don't have an Ill word to speak about Jana Evans nor her secretary Bianca. We are very pleased. We highly recommend Jana and will also be using her services for 5 more adoptions in the near future.

Jana Evans has been so great to my wife and I. She has been diligent and consistent with working on my case. She has communicated effectively every step of the way. Her fees are BEYOND FAIR and she even found ways to save me money in my case. She went as far as calling Africa to research things necessary to win my case! She does whatever it takes to help and I couldn't be more grateful for her excellent service and expertise in her field. My case was no slam dunk and she still was able to come through with a win for me! She was honest and fair right from the beginning with my chances but she said she would do everything she could to help us and she kept her word! If you're reading this, do yourself a favor and give her a shot! It sure did work out for me :-)

Mr. Cahn kindly came to me in the Dallas office. Treated me with respect and answered all of my questions. Very smooth process. His office staff, and specifically Mike, are great as well. They responded to me quickly and made sure I understood everything. I would recommend this office if you have the need for a bankruptcy lawyer.

Update: 10 years later, we have an excellent credit score with just a few credit cards with minimal balances and a mortgage! In 2011, my husband and I desperately needed help with debts incurred from a failing construction related business. We contacted Brian R. Cahn and they immediately took our case. We found their firm to be caring and sympathetic to our situation as they showed us our legal options and guided us through every step. They were very professional, prompt, and well educated in the laws pertaining to our case. Five years later we have completed the program and if I ever need a lawyer again, I will not hesitate to contact Bran Cahn and his staff. I recommend them to anyone who needs legal assistance.

Mr. Plumley has represented me on three different occasions for three very different cases. He and his legal assistant, Ms. Loftin have extensive experience in family, domestic and civil law as evidenced by the Three cases they WON on my behalf. You never know what circumstances life may send your way and I am grateful for their help at times that I desperately needed them.

Chad Plumley and his Legal Assistant, Lyndi were a tremendous help to me in the aftermath of a fairly serious automobile accident I was in caused by the other driver running a red light at 40+ mph. Chad was thorough and concerned and made sure that I was completely back on my feet before filing suit. His patience, diligence and legal knowledge resulted in a settlement that paid all my medical bills and provided me compensation for lost wages, pain and suffering. Lyndi was very organized and kept up with all the medical bills. She kept in frequent contact with me and provide updates and did much of the leg work for the case. She was always friendly, cheerful, patient and available. They made a great team and i was very pleased with their work. i will use Mr. Plumley in the future for any legal issues or questions I might have.

I am extremely pleased with my attorney, Chad Plumley. He is clearly very smart and experienced in handling family law. He was very realistic and didn't waste my time and money. We were able to get more than what I expected to help me and my children and he didn't charge me an arm and a leg.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dallas, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
